Current playoff format

Can anyone tell me the year that the TSSAA changed the playoff format in football to the one currently in use?

1994, I believe.

It was changed again in 1996. I think this was the first year of the public/priavate school split.

5 divisions went into effect before the 1994 season. However, the first year only 3 teams from each region made the playoffs instead of the current 4 and each regional winner got a first-round bye. However, because of the loss of $$$ for the teams that got byes by not having a game, the TSSAA changed it to 4 teams making the playoffs beginning in 1995 and it has been that way sense.

 

Small correction bhs, the public/private split happened in 1997, and that gets you to your current format.

You're right. My bad. I was thinking 93-94 school year and always say the spring semester.
