TENNESSEE TITANS HONOR OBION COUNTY CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH DARREN BOWLING AS TITANS COACH OF THE WEEK

(NASHVILLE, TN) - The Tennessee Titans announced today that Darren Bowling, head football coach of Obion County Central High School, has been named as the Titans High School Football Coach of the Week. Last Friday night, Bowling’s Rebels knocked off rival Union City High School 28-21 improving their record to 2-3 on the season.

Through the Titans Foundation, team owner K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr. will make a $1,000 contribution to the Obion County High School football program in Coach Bowling’s honor.

"High school football enjoys a great tradition in Tennessee," said Adams. "That tradition is based not only on the outstanding quality of play but on the devotion of their coaches who continue to develop high school football players into young men of strong character. I'm very pleased to underwrite this program that recognizes the efforts of so many talented high school coaches across the state!"

Coach Bowling will also receive a framed certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, NFL Director of Football Operations Gene Washington and Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher and will be the team’s guest at the Titans game vs. Seattle on December 18.

“Coach Bowling is a very dedicated teach and football coach,” Obion County Central Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Arthur Moss said. “He looks at each of the students as individuals and works with them on an individual basis. He is a great guy and we are very proud to have him at Obion County Central.”

The criterion for selection includes the coach’s impact on his team, school and community. A statewide media panel votes each week to determine the weekly winner. All high school football coaches in Tennessee, regardless of their school’s size, league, or division, are eligible to be selected each week. The program is designed to recognize high school coaches who transform, through their hard work and dedication, student-athletes into the best possible football players and citizens in their community.

“High school football coaches can play a role in the lives of their players that will have lasting results,” Washington says. “A competitive spirit, good sportsmanship and character development are some of the issues confronted on a daily basis by football coaches. We are thankful for the many coaches around the country who assume such a demanding role.”

Coach Bowling is now eligible for the Tennessee Titans Coach-of-the-Year award to be announced December 18 when the Titans host the Seattle Seahawks. Adams will make an additional $2,000 grant to that winner.

In its eighth season, the Titans Coach of the Week program has awarded more than $83,000 to football programs across the state. Previous 2005 weekly winners are:

Week 1 – Jeff Brothers, Pope John Paul II High School (Hendersonville)

Week 2 – Derrick Davis, Polk County High School (Benton)

Week 3 – Maurice Fitzgerald, Pearl Cohn High School (Nashville)

Week 4 – George Quarles, Maryville High School (Maryville)

Week 5 – Darren Bowling, Obion County Central High School (Troy)

Correction on my previous post, It's not JUST a reflection on Coach Bowling as a Coach and person, but to his entire team and the REbel Footbal community in general who are well deserving of this honor. As Coach Bowling has stated before,

it's not about I , but about the entire team and hopefully the Rebels will continue their impressive play for the second half of the season..

As for WesCHarge's comments on not letting anyone run the Coach off , don't worry, all of that stuff is in the past and the REbel program is MOVING FORWARD.

You can't let a few bad apples ruin the whole cart :thumb:

Good luck again to the Rebels and congrats to Coach Bowling..
