What are the thoughts on this game? Both have won and loss to the same opponents in the region, except Jeff Co. Bot hhave alomost identical stats in the region as far as points scored vs. points given up if you take out the Jeff. Co. game. Sevier has put points on the board this year, but offense has struggled the past two weeks. Bearden is coming off a bye week after a romp shutout of Campbell County. This one could be good! Just wondering some of the thoughts on the game. Also, any word on the two players hurt for Sevier in last week's game?

 

This one is for a home playoff game. You can bet both teams want this.

On paper it appears to be a pretty even matchup. From the stats both teams seem to have a real solid defence with a sporadic offense that is sort of Jekle & Hyde. When SC has struggled on the offensive side of the ball it has been because of turnovers and execution. Combine those miscues with just an average running attack (except when Watson is in at QB running the veer or the occasional FB blast) and an inconsistent passing attack and you have the potential for some pretty lackluster offensive performances against your better defenses. Hopefully the emergence of Seymour transfer Blake Wallace will help to ignite our anemic TB position.

 

Last weeks performance against JC was hard to figure. The team that I saw the Patriots field did not look like a 2-6 team. Their talent and level of play actually surprised me (and I believe the Bears too). Especially with all that we had heard was going on with all of the dismissals and unrest in Dandridge. Just a warning but the Bulldogs better beware next week or else you could stumble like we almost did (and probably should have). Another factor may have been that SC was sort of flat after shooting their wad the previous week in the loss to DB. It appeared to me that the team was not focused and didn't take the Patriots as seriously as they should have. It really showed on the defense side of the ball where even our reliable defense wasn't sharp as evident by the many 3rd and long conversions they allowed.

 

As far as injuries go LB David Murrah (gimpy ankle) and DE Jake McGinnis (back spasms) have both been plagued by these nagging ailments all year. Both went out in the first half last week and didn't return. I do not know their status for sure but I believe they will try to play Friday night. This is our 10th game in a row and we desperatly need a week off to heal up.

 

The winner secures second place in the region and a first round playoff game against the WB Govs at home. I am sure Bearden will be stoked I just hope the Bears are mentally and physically ready to go and can start executing better on the O side of the ball.

Well if Bearden is to win they will most likely have to do it with very few points.

After giving up 58 points in the first 3 games SCHS has given up 27 in the last 6 games. Take away CCHS and Central games and Bearden hasn't been a scoring jugggernaut.

 

I know the JCHS score was 14-6 ( a 80 yard TD run was nullified by a down-field clip to only a 40 yard game) and SCHS was inside the 25 as time ran out. 21-6 had the foul not occured on the long TD run would have sounded much better.

 

JCHS was able to move the ball in spurts but couldn't sustain a long drive (but one). I would be shocked if SCHS didn't win this one. Maybe close and possibly low scoring. ( unlike the 1998 57-56 2 OT thriller ) Most draining HS game I have ever attended.

 

Love the Bulldogs "glass cockpit" Press Box. Feels like a private suite at Neyland or something.

I'd expect a relatively low-scoring ballgame.

 

I'm proud of how far Bearden has come since last season. Although Region 1-5A isn't at its strongest point this year, the fact that Bearden is vying for second place in the region shows they've improved a ton.

 

I think the Smoky Bears will win a defensive battle Friday, but I'll be rooting for the Bulldogs.

This should be a great game. both teams are determined to win bc a home playoff game would be deserving for both programs. i hope the game is mistake and injury free and the weather is nice. i think sevier co. offense will provide one extra score in this one.

      OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.

      They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.

      The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.

      I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
