Should We Push Harder For Double Elimination?

I like it as a carry tournament. It makes the earlier round wins that much more important. Of course every match is important, but one slip up in an earlier round to an inferior wrestler could cost you a medal. That thought alone keeps you on you toes early in the tournament.

I agree here, but (if you like the suspense) the carry tournament makes much more sense with a blind draw than in a seeded tournament. The cream of the crop will almost always rise to the top with double elimination.

Unfortunately the carry tournament goes back into the 60's in TN, and will probably continue for some time (perhaps another 20-30 years).

By all means yes you should push as hard as possibly every year for this. Keep pushing every year and eventually someone will see the light or just get tired of listening to you and give in. Give me a little time and a good reason to do it (like say someone would actually look at it) and I could draw up a way to run the tournament as a true double elimination that wouldn't cause a huge problem on the time scales.

Push Push Push for it if you knwo what is good for your kids.

Considering that most of us know that weaker guys get carried into the consolations by a strong #1 guy, should TSSAA make the state tournament a double elimination bracket? I bring this up every year...should we make some more noise about it?

what is the typical reply to your suggestion of this change?

I think that the double elimination would be a good idea. Pretty much the majority of tournaments in Tennessee are double elimination, but I would like to see the weigh in change. I wish TSSAA would do the weigh ins like boxing. The night or day before a tournament. If they did this the wrestlers would be have more energy and make matches more intense and exciting.

How many other tournaments, in Tennessee, during the year are carry?

And if you were wondering the 5 Georgia State tournaments are double elimination and will all be held simultaneously at the same location this year.

Perhaps The TSSAA would like to hire you to come up and make it happen here too. That (time issues at one venue) has always been the excuse, along with logistics. Ross, can you take the Roundhouse and Big mac and make it work with only two divisions? I bet the number of TN wrestlers (although growing rapidly) pales in comparison to GA, but that may explain why yu have no problem funding off season teams and having tremendous depth to represent your great "new" state.

Come home, "chatt-town boy" :o

Yes, we should push hard for double elimination. These boys work hard all year for this. Last year they were many seated wrestlers who only got one match. Give them a chance to work back into competition. Double Elimination just seems a more fair process. The kids like and understand it better. The parents and teams drive from all over the state for this. Help give the kids a second chance to get back into competition.

    • Lol when was last time they won region or got past the 3 rd round.
    • Gravedigger gotta finish filling the hole before hitting 40 East. May need a new Yellow Shirt play signaler on the Stones. And apparently a new strength coach now. Cicadas must've got shaken out of the bushes in Donelson. Hopefully the mower man sticks around to keep DG field looking pristine. Maybe new OC can call in a favor to his PGA friends that knows a thing or two about being green during the season. The heat is on soon. Bring in the 2 way freak Iceman and cool things off. He knows a thing or 2 about wildcats. Gotta take our talents South soon for Nationals. Don't step on my blue suede shoes.
