jacketsfan13
I think the two main factors will be: Can the jackets beat the press, and can they stop Mardessa Hampton from scoring. She is faster and quicker than anyone on Kingston's team and likes to drive and push the ball. They are going to have to play their best game yet, but in the past Kingston has always played really well against Loudon for some reason. bballnuts
I couldnt agree more!!!! Something that the coaches might want to take a look at is shooting percentages. I'm sure they're already aware of it and probably having the girls work on it but just for the sake of a discussion, lets take a look at 3 areas: 3 Point Shooting - Current shooting % from the Arc is 22%. They did however shoot 72% in the Harriman game. Hopefully that will be the case tonight. Field Goals - Current shooting % is 39%. Not terrible for a H.S. team but could be a little better. Free Throws - Current shooting % is 51%. Even though this is their best %, its really hurting them. They've lost two games in overtime, if they could increase this %, they could have very easily added two more wins to their season if not 3 or 4 more. I really hope Coach Plemons has them spend extra time in practice hitting the free throws.
bballnuts
Tonight the Lady Jackets get their 2nd chance at Greenback. I think they have a real good chance to win if they can decrease their turnovers, increase their foul shooting percentage and last, get the ball inside to Gentry and Smith. Its obvious to those familiar with this team that their strength is inside. For some reason, the girls dont want to pass it down low or they just struggle passing the ball at all, which causes them the inability to pass it down low without turning it over. Theres no doubt that they have the ability to beat Greenback, they just need to play smart.
bballnuts
Talk about giving one away!!!!!!!!!! Kingston led at the half 23-17. They were getting the ball down low and doing a pretty good job at the free throw line. Then they collasped. Why is it so hard to understand that their strongest when they get the ball down low??? And what was Gentry thinking with less than 45 seconds to go in the game. Kingston is down by 9 and she's driving the ball down the lane trying to score 2 points?? Its true she drew a couple fouls but what good is that when you're down by 9 with less than 45 seconds left in the game. I saw her yell at Whitney to give her the ball, you could tell Whitney didnt like it. And even though they dont have a real 3 point shooting threat, if someone should have been taking shots, it should have been Whitney, Kayla, Laura or Alisha, not Gentry!! Gentry and Smith should be getting the ball inside, if they're not able to penetrate and get an inside shot, they should kick it back outside. Are these girls more interested in their individual stats or winning ballgames? Watching the last 45 seconds of last nights game really makes you wonder. Hopefully at some point, they will finally realize that how many you score, block, steal or rebound, doesnt mean anything if you're not winning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jacketsfan13
I'll have to agree with you this time. They needed to be shooting 3's, however had they made their free throws at the end it would have been closer. Gentry was being quite the ball hog. She got by with a couple of walks there at the end. She had no business yelling at Whitney to throw her the ball.
bballnuts
Free throws continue to kill them!!! As for Gentry being a ball hog, if you recall last year, they really relied on her to create some offense since no one else did. Brooke did a very good job last year. From what I've seen this year, sometimes she gets carried away and thinks she has to carry the team. She should let the game come to her. With her and Smith posting down low, they should be able to do very well. I'm very anxious to see the stats on the Prep Extra Website. Gentry scored 15 I think but I wonder how many times she shot?? I'm sure her shooting percentage will reflect what I'm referring to.
#42
Man, some people are being kinda rough on Brooke Gentry! Just a couple things you might want to consider, first, she's only a Sophmore and second, how does anyone know that Coach P. didnt tell her to do what she did? Brooke is a good ball player and is still learning. Believe me, her driving down the lane didnt cost them the ballgame. I would suggest that everyone just continue to watch them and be patient (I know thats hard right now). Brooke, Alisha, Katie, Tayler, Jacklyn, Jennifer, Brianna and a few others will be playing together for the remainer of this season plus 2 more years. No matter how frustrating it may seem right now, if the coaches work with them on the basics, the rest will fall into place. This group of girls has above average talent and a lot of potential. Only time will tell if they reach that potential. The fans just need to be patient and let the coaches do their job.
bballnuts
Tonight the lady Jackets travel to O.S.. Does anyone think they have a chance? In their last 3 games, Lenoir City, Bledsoe County and Meigs County, they have had a lead at the half, yet they went on to lose all 3 games. In one of those games, they were up by 5 @ the half, they extended that lead to 8 during the 3rd Qtr, yet still they lost. In the L.C. game, they were up by 3 or 4 @ the half, again, they increased that lead during the 3 Qtr but ended up losing. What gives?? I've noticed that Coach P. does a tremendous amount of substituting, does anyone else see this? In all three of the losses I mentioned, he had 5 girls on the floor that were in a rythymn, they had increased their lead, then he begins substituting and we end up losing the game. Does anyone else think this could be causing the problem, if not, why do you think the lady jackets cant close out a win when they are winning into the 3rd Qtr?
