To Union City fans: If you dont know anything about jbs or our team...then why insult us, and predict blowouts? We should all respect the other team because they have come this far. I'm just saying, when you predict blowouts then you feel pretty stupid late friday night just like mt. pleasant did.

I agree. Both teams are good and that is why they are here. It will be a close game and that is what Friday night playoff games are all about. As far as the hampton trousdale game it should be a good one as well. Trousdale is beatable it just depends on who wants it the most. Back on our game between UC and JBS, I hope it is as good as we all hope. Good luck to both teams.

Well,I for one have heard enough about heart winning this game....Unless we open one of these Jo Byrns players up and they have a heart the size of Secretariat, then UC doesn't have to worry about it....You know if you want to keep proving the size of your heart, keep getting down 20-7..Ask Dyersburg how that finally ends a teams season....

What will win this game is not only who is bigger, stronger and faster but who executes their game plan...Playing at home won't win either....The field at Cedar Hill is the same dimension as the one at Union City..I get kind of tired of hearing whoever wants it more is going to win..I really don't believe either of these teams wants this game any less than the other...All those things are tired, old cliches..Coachspeak if you will....I hope Union City's players don't get caught up in what coaches often do,play up their opponents to the point where their kids think the team they are playing is unbeatable...This especially happens at the high school level...And I know you have to have a healthy respect for the team you are playing..I'm not saying not to respect your opponent..Don't be awed by them..UC players remember this, you guys have played 4 maybe 5 teams better than what you are going to see Friday night..Sorry to hurt your feelings Jo Byrns but that is a fact..I think when Union City and Jo Byrns step on the field Friday and the Red Devils see that the line they are facing averages over 6' tall and between 260-300 lbs and see the size and speed of the Tornadoes backs,it will finally sink in..If that doesn't then the first lick they receive will...These UC players still have a 2A mentality where their opponents were Milan,Martin Westview,Huntingdon and teams of that nature...Congrats on your season Jo Byrns, you have had a special season..Remember it took the private schools leaving to do so..As bad as it has been the last two seasons at Union City, this is UC's 5th time since 1997 they have made it this far, making the 2A state finals twice...UC has a head coach that was an assistant on all those teams..He knows how to handle these situations..Tornado players you have the opportunity to do something very special at Union City and that is bring home one of those big Gold Footballs...It would look really good sitting beside those three Gold Basketballs....

Oh and if you Red Devil players and fans take this and think it might be some type of bulletin board material, you are already beaten..How could you not be jacked up to play for a chance to play at The 'Boro for a state title????

I could not agree with you any more about your statement regarding heart and how it wins games, or fails to. Heart may play a role in deciding a close game between two equal opponents. However, to say that heart can completely make up for being out matched is absolutely ridiculous. 99 out of 100 times the team that is bigger, faster, and stronger will win the game, especially at the high school level, and even more at the single A level, where players tend to be more "unpolished." A big heart gets you through practice in the heat, and through an injury during a game. All of these may indirectly affect your success as a player and a team, but as far as heart winning a game by itself, it is not going to happen. However, as far as the gold football looking good next to the basketballs, i dunno about all of that, I'm just glad to see gold back in Obion County. And from experience, it is possibly the greatest feeling one will ever experience. I honestly wish the best for both teams, I just can not see JB beating UC. And if I am wrong, I will be back on here, although I rarely post, to admit it.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
