Beech in Sumner Cty. has a Freshman pitcher named Kat Banks. Pitched against many teams this season. Throws low 60's and is lost just 2 or 3 times in 20 outings.

I'm always very careful when stating how hard a pitcher throws. Saying a 15 year old girl throws in the low 60s is like saying a 15 year old boy throws low to mid 90s. Check what the college girls are throwing, the 19, 20, 21 and 22 year olds.

Agree with what you are saying, however, I have seen 14 year old pitchers at ASA Nationals throwing in the 60's with me holding the JUGS. Just saying that the newspaper said she hits 64 while and others say low 60's. The truth is in there somewhere but I do know what you mean. Have not seen her pitch but have heard she is tall, lanky and can bring it.

Hannah Hogan freshman pitcher has led CA to Substate game. A very good freshman pitcher

Well, you get to see a substate matchup between two really good Freshman pitchers. Shelby Stinnett from Forrest will go against Hannah Hogan on Friday at C.A. I have no doubt these two will match up a few more times in there career. Good luck Shelby and Forrest! Represent the District well!

Shanna Chappell just led Westview to the spring fling starting every district regional and sub-state game she is only a freshman better watch her

Jefferson County High School had an outstanding freshman pitcher this year (Tori Hill). Has 5 effective pitches. throws low 60's ( 63 per college scout clocking at 19 under travel ball tournament last fall) and a 13-5 win/loss record in a conferance that could also be considered one of the toughest AAA in the state (conferance contains M. East, M. West, JCHS-advanced to sub-state 8 years in a row till this year, and Cherokee). Losses were to Morristown East (2), Morristown West(2)-won region this year, and Unicoi (1) perinial state contender in their division, only non-conferance loss in a game she pitched this year, these are three of the most respected teams around. Only gave up 4 earned runs through the first 14 games (then ran into a buzz saw first time against West, gave up 6 earned), but only allowed 7 hits and one earned run against them 2nd time(West won their region this year with 6 starting seniors). Also batted in the high .300 range taking at least 5 off the fence. Hard to say who is the best freshman in the state without them seeing the same competition, so one can compare them, but being the starting pitcher as a freshman for the 2nd largest school ( by population) in the state is quite an accomplishment. Congradulations to all the young female athletes (Freshman - Seniors) competing in high school softball this spring, you have made watching this game a joy this year. Good luck to all those still playing and best wishes to all those who graduated. GO LADY VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a phenominal pitcher, but I would not consider a district without a team representative at state, to be one of the toughest districts...........

What tournament was she clocked at 63? SEAA? What college scout? Everyone says college scout, name the College.

The best pitcher and MVP of District 9A was Shelby Stinnett of Forrest. Incredible pitcher with a huge stick! Had three hits and pitched a shutout to lead Forrest to a Region win on Monday. She'll be on the mound against East Robertson today in the Region Championship. I gaurantee you'll have a hard time finding a better Freshman pitcher and all around player! Good luck today Forrest!

agree, even though East won she pitched great, I thought she was a jr or sr until I heard someone say that just a freshman pitching, I was amazed

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
