They also left Laura Brock of East Ridge off the team. Tenth highest average in the city (check the paper 5-12). Best lead off batter in the city ( on base average in her high school career so far around .650). The best defensive player in the area and being recuited by SEC softball teams. But she isn't good enough for the 6aa all district team. Not putting her and the Bledsoe pitcher on the all district team makes these awards totally worthless. If you can't give awards to the people who deserve them you should not give them at all. I know for a fact that the head caoches have a tremendous amount of leverage on who from their team gets awards and who did not. In most cases the head coach picks the players. The Bledsoe coach had only 2 choices because of their district record and where they finished. The higher in the standings you finish the more choices you get. East Ridge had 4 choices. The East Ridge head coach screwed one of the best players in the tri-state area.

While I'm preaching I will point out that the carwash episode is the 2nd time in 3 years I have seen a softball team underestimate their opponents and lose to teams they should have defeated easily. Bledsoe and East Ridge are good teams but their rosters cannot be compared to Hixson. Also playing on a large field was a disadvantage to Hixson. Balls that were homeruns on a small field were outs on a big field. Brock will catch it if its in the air and not a line drive. Look at the the last out in the Championship game. May have been the best shot of the tournament but just a long out.

Did anyone notice how fast the big crowd of Boyd Buchanan players, parents, fans and coaches headed for their cars as soon as the last out of the Bledsoe-Hixson game. They are thanking the softball gods they don't have to face Hixson in the first game of the region.

Good luck to all.

I have been trying to forget this string and move on but I keep thinking about it and simply must reply.

First paragraph.....I agree Laura Brock is a great player. I've known her for a couple of years now through softball and volleyball. She is a first class athlete and probably very deserving of inclusion on the district team. However, to present numbers and/or statements as being true when probably a matter of personal feelings is doing a dis-service to Laura and the rest of the team as well as the other players in the game. You stated she is the best lead off hitter with an on base % of around 650. Based on what? These numbers aren't published and I personally know of two players that have on base % of 653 and 667. My point here is not that Laura isn't great and deserving. My point is what the statement is based on since these numbers aren't published. There may be even better numbers out there that we don't know about other than these 3.....Also, you stated that she is the best defensive player in the area...Again, based on what? Fielding percentages are not published and I know of a player whose fielding % is 990 this year and 994 for the cumulative 4 years. I'm sure there are other great defensive players out there.

Second paragraph....Couldn't agree with you more. All of their sass earlier in the year about them and Soddy being the only "good" teams in the area. Well, they will have plenty of time next week collecting money.

Last paragraph.....This one cracked me up!! ""Did anyone notice how fast the big crowd of Boyd Buchanan players, parents, fans and coaches headed for their cars as soon as the last out of the Bledsoe-Hixson game. They are thanking the softball gods they don't have to face Hixson in the first game of the region.""

What a joke. I was there. I know most of the people from East Ridge, Hixson, and Boyd Buchanan. The big crowd of Boyd players, parents, fans and coaches consisted of 1 parent and 1 assistant coach......period. NO players, other parents or coaches. And in talking with some of the players and coaches from Boyd they knew the Hixson game would be tough but wanted to play them to avenge a loss earlier in the season. I just hope no one got trampled by the big Boyd crowd leaving!!

Anyone who watched the district games knows Brock is one of the district's best players. Making a list or not doesn't change that, and nobody said All-District necessarily meant a list of the best players or top college prospects. Which player had a .994 fielding percentage over 4 years, that's outstanding. Top here this year among starters was .979, 47-48, a P-OF-1B.

Great Season Bledsoe.....Kind of like the umpires said "It's a shame you beat probably the best public school in the state in AA and have to come play a powerhouse private school, thats rediculous.".....But nonetheless, we had a great season and I'm looking forward to next season....Good Luck to the seniors and hope Ashley and Mary do good in college softball....

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
