Antwan
I think the current system could be vastly improved upon. You have very strong areas with many deserving teams that knock each other out. A super regional would ensure the best teams go and would give us the opportunity to seed the teams into the state other than just being determined by area. Also what's up with some regions only having 2 or 3 or 8 teams in them and other regions having 16 teams in them. How fair is our qualifying sytem based on this fact alone? Also doesnt division II send 8 teams to state too? If they only have thirty something teams , how fair is that? Your ratios for A, AA, AAA and division II are way off. Super regionals would not ensure the best teams to be there. Some of the best teams will always be left out.
captwillie
The state tournament should be something different than any other weekend tournament, and the way it is held now that is what it is, only spread out over 4 or 5 days. The same old fields that we play on all year, nothing different. Teams just show up and play. There is no special recognition of the players. If you were driving by you could not even tell it was the state tourney except for the 12X16 signs that the almighty TSSAA spent so much on. The girls deserve much more than they get. Why do the girls not get to play in a stadium atmosphere like baseball does? I know they dont every game but the girls get NOTHING!!! The format is not going to change until the leadership at the top does, It would take to much effort on TSSAA part, I know they dont have time to change anything they might miss a retreat or something. Antwan
If the top two district teams advance to the regionals how is it fair that some districts have 9 teams and some have only 2. Our system is flawed!! What district has 2 teams?
fastpitch101
What district has 2 teams? well in AA , district 5 only has 2 teams- Washington and Treadwell In AAA District 15 has 3-Houston , Collierville and Germantown District 16 has 2 teams- Whitehaven and Memphis Basically if you are in district 13, 14 15, or 16 you have a 2 in 13 chance of going to state as district 13 and 14 only have 4 teams each and these teams all play each other to get to state. If add to the fact that some of the teams in these districts got runruled everytime they played, I would say in reality your odds are really better than that. Wow pretty good odds if you live in that part of Tennessee

Wow pretty good odds if you live in that part of Tennessee maybe all teams should compete for berths to state like they do in travelball. Or maybe the super regional is a good idea. The current system is not really correct. How about division II with half as many teams overall and as many teams as AAA going to state. Odds of getting to state are excellent there too!! kksdad
You should send 4 teams from each district to the regional. Some districts are far more competative than others. Then maybe have super sectionals, best 2 out of 3. The objective should be to get the best 8 teams in the state tourney.

You know district nine is a very good example of why our current system is so flawed. They have beech, hendersonville, Mt. juliet and Wilson central. These teams are the top teams in the state. Look at district 7 and you have almost the same thing. A great team out of this district has to go through Chattanooga, district 6 to get to the state every year. The chattanooga teams win first or second every year for the last .....what ten or so years. How fair is that? Dont forget the numbers thing. Region 5 has districts 9 and 10 in it giving a total of 15 teams, the other regions are close to the same except for regions 7 and 8 that have 8 and 5 TOTAL teams respectively. Do you call this fair???????? This is just in AAA ball. AA and A have the same problems. Edited May 31, 2006 by headinghome

What it is going to take is for the MTSCA to get together and present an alternate solution to the people in charge of state. I also think it should be manditory that a bigger effort should be made to make the state tournament special for the girls. Programs with names of the schools and players would be nice, also announcers would be nice ect........ The main thing is to get the qualifying system to get to state fair. Right now it doesnt work. Agreed! There was absolutely nothing about the State Tournament that distinguished itself from a presentation standpoint from any other weekend travel tournament. Like most weekend tournaments, it was obvious that whatever least expense could be attained to get to a result was the goal. The concession stand did not even open till right before game time. On 90 degree days (you can't take a cooler in), you would think they would at least have it open. Also, the umpires that our team had (for the most part) were pathetic! (Several teams had the same feedback). Too many showboats that honestly didn't know what they were doing. (You expect "better" at the State Tourney!) Sorry! For a first-time participant, I thought it was disappointing. There certainly didn't seem to be any effort made by TSSAA to make it special for the participants. imiss89
Maybe and this is just suggestion but MAYBE Soddy Daisy could board and kennel their fans and parents. Its too bad that such a good team has such bad sports as fans. Congrats to a good team and a good bunch of athletes. Wish that your coach and fans could reflect that high level of competition. No team should ever question an injury at the plate like Soddy fans did. That was beyond tacky. Congrats on a good championship girls, you deserve it. "When you have other teams that likes playing you, you're not beating them enough." i just thought it was rude to question if a girl was hurt when she was clearly knocked out at the plate I dont think that the MJ fans are as rude or maybe if they were they were reacting to our girl getting hit (not at all thinking or implying it was intentional). I got there right when our girl got hit and heard people saying "she aint hurt" and "Get up". That was uncalled for by any group of fans be it SD or MJ fans.
