Maryville wanted to be paid to have a home game on TV, and Comcast refused. Of course I can see both sides of this argument. Having your team on TV is great for getting kids out to play and for the community. As a coach it can be a huge headache. It can be such a distraction.

Yep, you are correct, but is Charter not still the cable provider for Blount County? I believe that played in to that decision, too.

In talking to some coaches, they really don't like TV games because of the distractions and the long TV breaks. It does affect the flow and momentum of the game.

That said, being on the radio broadcasting side of it, I do understand the need for the longer breaks. It is very expensive to produce a live TV broadcast. Sponsors have to be taken care of in order to pay the bills and be able to broadcast the games.

Yes, I would like to see a new crew. Almost anybody. Please!

Wingman--You've obviousy been around a while. You obviously have a strong opinion on the matter of crew. Why? What drives it? Call it research for me, but your's is the first negative and seems to be vehement. I'm a little suprised.

Help me out with specifics.

Thanks

Don't know about the East State, but Comcast in Middle Tennessee is pretty concious of game flow, etc. Most of the games I've seen where it's broadcast, the coaches and teams seemed to appreciate the extra few seconds taken. It's not like a college or pro game where they are going to break at X:XX of each quarter, no matter the situation. Saw one game last year where there were NO timeouts, TV or otherwise, in the entire first quarter.

Why can't some of the smaller schools in the state get this deal? I'd rather see some of the better small school games on TV than some of the middle of the road larger schools playing.

Try the Trousdale Co./Friendship game. or maybe Smith Co./Knox Catholic or maybe Alcoa/Fulton

Don't limit the games to Middle Tenn. I as a football fan would like to see a great game whomever plays.

I think a lot of it has to do with "metropolitan" areas, that is, areas that have 1) heavy cable subscription and 2) fiber already built in. You can't get these games on sattelite.

Knoxville has one broadcast team/schedule, Chattanooga one, and Nashville another. Not sure about Memphis yet...don't think Comcast/Charter is in that market.

As for the Chattanooga schedule, having played basketball at Howard a couple of times, I'm not sure I would welcome a football trip. Not being ugly, just a couple of memorable trips 25 years ago.

Are you basing your entire opinion of Chattanooga on a couple of trips to Howard? If so, that is not fair.

    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
    • He was pretty darn good for a freshman, but he will have a hard time seeing the field at Oakland for a good while, I’m afraid.
    • Dang I feel bad for the kid. I’m sure he loves his dad and wants to do anything for his dad but I don’t think he realizes his dad isn’t doing the best for his football career if he keeps jumping schools.
