AE and Fulton is a big one

Lipscomb Goodpasture

and last but best Milan and Huntington

I know there are a lot of intense rivalries across the state, but Wartburg-Coalfield has got to rank right up there with the best of them. Back in the eighties when I played for Wartburg, there was nothing quite like it! It was ALWAYS the hardest hitting game I played in every year. I think that we were ahead of our time for trash-talking too! It seemed the refs were always calming us down and personal fouls were common. But I also remember lining up against Coalfield kids I knew back then. Sometimes I would reach across and shake their hand before the first play, and then it was all out war!!! But, twenty years later I wish I could go back and do it again. It was really something special. No matter what kind of year either team is having, it's always a special week. Could I get an AMEN from my homies BroDogg66 and CYJACKET??

Somebody up thread mentioned for it to be a rivalry, both teams have to have the same opportunity to win. In some years that is not the case, however; in Coalfield and Wartburg's case the over all record is nearly .500 with Wartburg leading by three games. Probably will be narrowed to two games this year.

Folks that is a rivalry. In County, County Seat vs. the rural school. It is American High School Football at its finest.

Go Jackets.

Rivalries are not one sided and the series between Boyd and South Pitt is a one sided affair . . .

You got that right. The Pirates are about 22-5 against Boyd. Until 2000 Boyd couldn't keep within 5 touch downs. There were years that Boyd wouldn't even compete in the District to avoid playing the Pirates.

The South Pittsburg - Jasper game on the other hand goes back 80 years and those teams don't get along on or off the field because many of the players are kin to each other.
