They don't have a football team, but St. Mary's in Memphis are called the Turkeys.

And then, St. Cecilia's in Nashville are called the Scarabs (some kind of Egyptian beetle).

I like Hendersonville's name: Commandos

If you go outside of Tennessee you can find all kinds of funky names.

Hoopston (Illinois) Cornjerkers

Sheldon (Iowa) Orabs (stands for orange and black)

Blooming Prairie (Minnesota) Awesome Blossoms

Chinook (Montana) Sugar Beeters

Virginia City (Nevada) Muckers

Fredericktown (Ohio) Freddies

Abington (Pennsylvania) Galloping Ghosts

Yuma (Arizona) Criminals (good name for a school, don't you think?)

And my favorite: Watersmeet (Michigan) Nimrods

Williams College Purple Cows.

No, seriously. Look it up.

    • While I appreciate being credited with multiple accounts, I have to say that is not true. Will you please report back to your people that I am not someone who provides sharp, witty banter, but rather someone who is putting the shoe on the other foot for some people that have been repeatedly bashing others here and in real life for the past few years? Everything that I have stated has been backed by factual evidence or public record, so no need to be sharp and witty.
    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
