4A better than 5A?

OK, Good 5A programs have lost to good an average 4A programs.

Farragut has lost to Knox Central and Powell. WB lost to Maryville. Cookevile lost to Cleveland. Hendersonville lost to Beach.

Looks like a trend to me. Does anyone else have examples?

We might have to many classifications in our state. Give me the days of 3A and no D-II.

Let them play. Alcoa has proved that the small schools can hold their own.

Farragut and Cookeville made it past the 2nd round!

Farragut lost to Central who went 11-2 losing both games to Maryville by a total of 10 points and Powell who also onlt lost to some of the top teams last year. That is the toughest 4A region in the state. Cookville is definately down this year and Cleveland is 1 of the top 4A teams in the state. If you are going to make this comparison you have to compare all the games between 4A and 5A. Not just the ones with the best 4A teams. Donyns-Bennett has play (3) 4A teams this year and beat them by a combined score of 120-14. Someone else will have to look this up, but I'm guessing most of the top 5A teams do not play many 4 A teams. Does Ravenwood, Ridgeway, Oak Ridge, or Riverdale? I know most of their non-region games are with private schools or out of state.

Forget it Rigger you are wasting your time. Mikey has basically a Clinical Phobia regarding 4A when compared to 5A, especially if Maryville is mentioned in the same sentence. By the way you left out the fact that 2A Alcoa beat McCallie last night. A McCallie team who has beaten Brentwood Academy and 5A darling Riverdale. Heres one for you Mikey. Maryville pasted a William Blount team last night, who went toe to toe with, and likely outplayed the number 5 team in 5A last week at Ooltewah. Just a fluke I guess.

I don't think there is a lot of difference in the top 5 4A & 5A schools year in and year out. But there is a big difference in 6 thru 10 in the two classes. I don't think 4A can compete with 5A outside the top 5. Morristown West a 4A school will have 80 to 90 players come out each year. Put that with a good coaching staff and your bound to be pretty good.

    • I grew up watching Greene Devil Football since I could walk and still close with a lot of the coaches so should know my history pretty well lol.  Everything worked out the way it should have but firmly believe McCurry would have won some State Title if he wouldn't been let go (Greeneville still runs the same D he brought here and he let Ballard run the O and stayed out of it when it came to calling plays.  Greeneville was put out in the Semi's McCurry's last year against Maryville and the next year Greeneville stayed in 4a and was State Runner up playing were they were placed for the first time by the TSSAA.). It was definitely a McCurry and Ballard show that turned everything around along with the Community buying in and revamping the weight room and field house. Since Ballard got promoted to HC every Coach after him has been within the Greeneville Coaching staff because your right, they know what it takes to win a state championship.  Ballard was a master mine on O and what i think Greeneville has lacked since he left and let some Championships or making it to the Championship slip away over the last few years
