My point exactly. They run like cross country runners. Nice and steady. Not fast. You did a much better job of making my point. Thank you.

Cat,

I might agree that there are some not so fast cross country runners just like there are some not as good basketball players especially indicative on some poor performing teams;

however there are not slow state qualifiers in cross country especially on a team that finishes 14th in the state.

nice and steady and fast... check it out.

PH, I am trying my best to wean myself from Blogging, and leave this for you and the Pres. I evidently am not very good at it. but keep getting suckered in. Is there a coacht anonymus.

I am amazed though that in a couple of weeks close to 2500 views have been made on my two topics. Not bad for a novice, but I want to shed my addiction.

ALso if White County had 9 turnovers for the game. Did, won't mention name-Siegel player, have 9 instead of 10 steals for the game?

Last April Lebanon High School, due to the resignation of their Basketball Coach, started in another direction after has some pretty unsucessful seasons, W-L wise, in 7AAA. Wins and losses really does not mean a lot though in a lot of things because positives can be gained in anything, mostly character building things. A Coach was selected and again eyebrows were raised as this Coach came from the School, an ex-coach who did have head coaching experience but evidently wanted to get back in the business.

Coach Darron Brown had to evidently build a lot of bridges to a program which was noted, in a county with two powerhouse girls teams Wilson Central and Mt. Juliet High School, for not only the scores it lost by but the number of players that went thru the program during the year. Bridge building is precarious no matter what profession you are in, as the pot holes are not evident until you cross over them.

Coach Brown, elicited the help of a staff and evidently has done a lot of heavy lifting and gotten the help of the current players to buy in to what he was doing along with the parents and patrons of the school. It appears , from the outside, that the LHS Staff efforts and especially the efforts of what has to be a fine group of players is paying off irregardless of how you grade success.

Sure they have lost a lot of games BUT the scores have gotten closer and it is evident that a lot of players are being noted for their improvement in their total team play and they have won a lot of games. They have played an ambitious schedule and looking at the scores have been in all but a few games.

Building is not easy work. Its hard on Coaches, very hard on parents, and hard on players to understand that they are a part a hisory of the school. They are the team that will be understood as the one that had a great deal to do with bringing LHS girls basketball to its past days. A number are watching the success that has been made at the school and the increase in the SSR that CoachT keeps up with and how it has improved this year.

7AAA is glad to see the Devilettes are back and if you look at the schedule, are very competitive. And I am sure if you ask Coach Brown and the players they will say " Yes, but the jobs not done".

With as young as Oakland has been in the last few years, I have been careful in my opinion of how they play, but I was extremely disappointed last night, Oakland went 8 minutes without a point in the 2nd half and almost 10 minutes without a basket.

Oakland did all the little things well in the first half and the very parts of the 2nd half and that resulted in a 32-21 lead. But from that point on, it was almost like Oakland went back to the team of last year that played intimidated and did not think about making smart decisions with the basketball. Cookeville is a good program and it is tough to win at their place, but Oakland should have won that game last night and ill defy anyone who thinks otherwise. But its back to the drawing board, seeing Lebanon almost go toe to toe with Riverdale gives me some measure of hope that Oakland can give Riverdale a good scare friday night

Good post. When the game score was posted, I thought the same thing but I didn't see it. I wiil comment on this very quickly and admit I do not know what happened. Do you think that losing the number of games in a row had an effect on the younger players and gave Cookeville the chance to concentrate on your scorers? That is my last comment on the subject but as usual would be interested in your response. RD/Oakland will be a good match.

I don't feel that losing a number of games had any effect. After last season, they should be used to losing a number of games. Now that they've had a number of victories this season they should be playing their heart out to win. Every team will focus on Oakland's scorers because they know who they have to stop each game, that comes as no surprise to any of Oakland's opponents. I really don't think that Oakland's scoring is the problem though. Their defense has holes and turnovers at inappropriate times kills them.

I dont think the players get caught in the W-L column as much as the fans do. Cookeville did play better defense, but Oakland helped them out by settling for jumpers and missing some gimme layups. Cookeville played better, but up 11 with 6 minutes to go in the third should be a lead that a good team can hold. Maybe if this happened against MJ or Riverdale, I would be a little bit more forgiving, but thats not the case

All good posts and I agree with Grad. Oakland can play a good 2 or 3 Quarters of basketball every night, but that really isn't always going to get you a win. Early in the year it looked like Oakland was hungry and willing to fight for a win and now at times it seems like they just give up by settling for jump shots and trying to force things. After the Mt. Juliet game I haven't seen Oakland play a consistent set of games yet, and it seems like each night there is a new team on the court. I think there has been a lot of shuffling in the line up to try and find that other player that they need.

The biggest thing that aggrivates me is that Oakland's defense has too many wholes. At some points in the game they allow three pointers and defend the post well, but then some points defend the perimeter well and allow post players to dominate. It just seems to me that they drag their feet on defense too much. Most of their players have been playing long enough to recognize what kind of threat each player poses, but I don't think that they are able to put it all together.

If Oakland finds the heart that they had earlier this season, then they should be a formidable team. At this point however, they are in need of some soul searching.

They will get that drive back.......

I agree with you 2priceless. I would also like to point out that TD has NEVER lost her drive! She is a basketball machine! By the way, your ststement about Stars not shining in the OZONEEE, although very clever, is not scientifically acurate. Reflected light from the stars passes directly through the ozone totally unaffected by it.

I was simply repeating the first line of the new Oakland chant/song. I really like it. Plus it ticks off all the posters from Siegel on the boys board. <_<

TD is a competitor like no other........

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
