Franklin

Dickson Co.

Brentwood

Ravenwood

Indy loses to Brentwood and loses the tie breaker

You hear lots of debate about "Best Region" in the state but this has to be the toughest. Five good teams fighting for four spots...All should do well in the playoffs. Best of luck to all of the coaches/players as they play "must win" games in the coming weeks.

I agree with Lax on the four above...I think Indy has an uphill battle to beat Brentwood at BHS after two consecutive losses.

Ive heard that so far the #2 seed will play Antioch, #4 Gallatin, so who will #1 and #3 play. Do they play each other??

5-5A stands as such right now:

Rank Team Record Games remaining

1. Gallatin 8-0 (5-0) (@ Hendersonville, @ McGavock)

2. Hendersonville 5-3 (4-1) (Gallatin, @ Hunters Lane)

3. Hunters Lane 4-4 (3-2) (Glencliff, Hendersonville)

4. McGavock 4-4 (3-2) (@ Overton, Gallatin)

5. Antioch 4-4 (2-3) (Hillwood, @ Glencliff)

6. Overton 3-5 (2-3) (McGavock, @ Hillwood)

This region can go 100 different ways, but the one thing that is easiest to figure out is that Gallatin will win the region.

After that, Hendersonville has the easiest route, assuming that they beat Hunters Lane. If they do so, they will win that #2 seed.

So the 3rd and 4th seed boil down to two teams. If Hunter's Lane wins out, they will get the 2nd seed. If they lose to H-ville, they will end up 4-3 in region play. Antioch should also end the region play 4-3, and if McGavock win one of their last two, they will be 4-3. If Overton beats McGavock, the Raiders will most likely be out, and Overton will be in.

So three teams will most likely be 4-3 at the end of the season, and tie breakers will occur.

If McGavock wins 1 of their last two:

McGavock beat Antioch, Antioch beat Hunters Lane, and Hunters Lane beat McGavock. So the next tie breaker would occur. That tie breaker is overall wins. If the scenario plays out as follows, overall records would be:

Antioch 6-4

Hunters Lane 5-5

McGavock 5-5

Antioch would be the 3rd seed, and because Hunters Lane beat McGavock, Hunters Lane would be seed #4

If Overton wins 1 of their last two:

Overton beat Antioch, Antioch beat Hunters Lane, and Hunters Lane beat Overton. Once again, head to head does not apply, so the next tie breaker occurs.

Antioch 6-4

Hunters Lane 5-5

Overton 5-5

So most likely, your seeds are:

1. Gallatin

2. Hendersonville

3. Antioch

4. Hunters Lane

#1 seed in Region 5 plays #4 seed in Region 6 (home games for higher seeds)

#2 seed in Region 5 plays #3 seed in Region 6

#3 seed in Region 5 plays #2 seed in Region 6

#4 seed in Region 5 plays #1 seed in Region 6

Next round winner of game 1 plays winner of game 3; winner of game 2 plays winner of game 4. Then those winners play each other.

That winner plays the winner coming out of West Tennessee Regions 7 & 8 in the semi's.

That winner goes to the 'boro to face the winners from the East.

6-5A is among the toughest in the state but, when you compare them to 5-5A in the past four years (recent history), 6-5A has a combined playoff record of 16-4 versus 5-5A teams. Only one team from 5-5A (Hendersonville) has made it to quarterfinals in that time (2003). 6-5A teams have had 7 appearances in semifinals and finals during that time and 2 state championships.

I know the Gallatin faithful will claim that this year's team is different but the multiple offenses and speed prevalent in 6-5A have beaten the predominant ground games and size of 5-5A consistently. Maybe this year will be different but, I doubt it. Even Dickson County has thrown for as many or more yards as their 6-5A oppenents (except NE and they didn't have to throw in that game) which may account for their fine record in the region so far this year. Dickson obviously learned that you have to open it up a bit to compete in 6-5A and has done well.

As for defenses, tell me one team in the top five of 6-5A that doesn't have a very good defense.
