Maryville vs. Oak Ridge Football

On the subject of classifications, it is interesting to point out that, through Week 8, 4A and 5A were tied at 40-40 in head-to-head matchups. While I don't find that terribly surprising, it is interesting to note that 4A actually trailed 3A 22-24 in head-to-head matchups, and in an even greater gap, 2A schools trailed 1A schools 23-42.

 

While this doesn't necessarily relate directly to Maryville and Oak Ridge, and one year doesn't make or break a case (although I'd venture to say historical trends would be along similar lines), it should indicate to most people that there is far too much parity amongst the DI classifications to justify 5 classes. If anyone ever has the time, it would be interesting to go beyond the raw numbers and see how they shape up when strength of schedule is factored into the mix (perhaps something I'll do in the offseason).

 

Here's the link of head-to-head results by class and region. It should be updated for Week 9 by tomorrow (update: 5A vs. 4A still tied; 4A vs. 3A now tied at 26-all through Week 9).

I think my boys here in Lakeland will make it through the playoffs fine this year. I think we may even send a few players up to boost the Cats next year and get involved in the recuiting process that goes on in Maryville. Maybe that will get OR even with the Mighty Rebs talent wise.

As a group the freshman team is very limited at the skilled positions and very strong in the line.

Hey Ole Dad....... looks like competition in 5 A is going to be hard to come by too. Do you think Maryville needs to move up to 6A? That way maybe Oak Ridge will still have a shot to make it to the state.

Hey Ole dad.....another question....since you should have plenty of time to check it out this year how does the basketball team look?

 

BTW......how are you cooking your crow these days?

What does your fellow Oak Ridgians think about you calling Lakeland " my boys " ? This is a much bigger scandal in the Atomic city than who the next coach to be fired is ! :thumb:

I am glad Oak Ridge doesn't recruit Ole Dad.....I was told that from the Guilmire brothers when there were at Powell......... <_<

I love how all of you Maryville fans are on here degrading OR fans because your JV and freshman teams beat them.

 

 

 

Here is some advice Owl fan......stay off the OR Maryville threads since you have nothing to bring to this little skirmish. Win something first and maybe then we will allow you on a OR - Maryville thread. If you don't take my advice we will load the MHS football team on a bus and come down and STOMP your little drug induced dream back to reality. Number two in 5A?............ :lol: I watched your team play WB at your HOME field and with your HOME refs and if you are #2 in the state in 5A then 5A is horrible.... <_<

IamOWL, I didn't jump on O.R. just reported a couple of scores.

 

As a matter of fact, I believe I said a "very good" O.R. freshman team. Check it out.

 

Benny is doing a good job for the Owls.

Whats Marvulle Frosh Record? Why wouldn't they play Halls Frosh this year?

 

I've been wondering that myself???? Didn't play them last year either. I'd say Stars has been gauging our talent in youth ball, saw how good it was, failed in his recruitin' efforts, and informed the MHS administration that they better not play Halls lest they take a whuppin'. Bring on the Maryville mafia.... :lol:

      They did a 10 play series deal instead of down and distance. LC scored twice but if it had been an actual game neither would have mattered because they turned over the ball twice with Sweetwater forcing fumbles both times. LC only scored on the 2nd stringers as well. Defense is looking solid and the offense has a good running back and receiver who did not play last year but made several great catches during the scrimmage, I believe the cats had some key pieces missing with baseball and track still being in season at the time. Considering the wildcats were matched up against a 5A school the cats held their own and forced multiple turnovers while also creating scoring opportunities against the LC defense.

      I don’t see any of them guys why leave programs to go there with no community backing or anything. Word up here on the hill is davy and veto into it over whose kid should be q b for jr high. Tough times in tc hope it all changes with a new face. And once again we aren’t giving up shoulders. And he doesn’t want that crap down there lol

      Whoever gets hired I don’t think they will be there long, they’ll get ran out of town because they can’t win a tough region with a pee wee team.
