That is interesting about the 1972 team. I take it they don't really do that anymore, just rank teams in high school polls?

I believe USA Today still crowns a National Title...that is what all the Hoover, AL broohaha was over. There coach claimed he couldn't motivate his kids to only win a state title since they had already done that several times and he politicked for a #1 USA today ranking to set them up for a "national" title.....which is crazy because I watched a game with Oaks Christian (the other Clasuen brother) and there is no way Hoover is better than that team.

Not sure though what publication voted the Vikes national champs or how a team from ETenn got that honor.

State Titles: 1964, 1960, 1959, 1955, 1949, 1948, 1947, 1945, 1940, 1939, 1936, 1935, 1923

All of DB's titles were before the inception of the TSSAA.

 

It's been 42 years since DB won a state championship? Could it be that some of the better paying jobs that attracted young families to the area like Eastman & Kingsport Press have evaporated and those same types of families are moving to other areas of Tennessee.

When you put the smiley face at the end of a sentence (I'll type slow so you can understand) it means it was meant to be humorous. It was a tongue-in-cheek statement about us, not you. We get accused of recruiting all the time.

We also have a low unemployment rate down here in Blount County.
