Ravenwood @ Antioch

Recommended Posts

I think these may be the two best 4 loss teams anyone's seen in a while. I didn't see the Rwood-Gallatin game, but I can tell you that Antioch owned the game last week. It wasn't as close as the score looked. Dickson made two pushes to the endzone all night. The results were one FG and one interception in the endzone. The rest of the night - nothing. I think this one will be a heck of a game. Turnovers just might be what loses it.

Turnovers and the often forgotten kicking game could be the deciding factor (I have read "G Factor" so much recently that I am starting to use that word more often  ) ...does anyone know anything about Antioch's kickers?

Not very good from what I saw (they missed an extra point on their 1st touchdown vs. Dickson), but their coverage and return game looked pretty good.

My best guess is that Ravenwood has the edge in the kicking game. Lopez has been the starting kicker since his freshman year and has experience in kicking in a number of big games over the years. By the way, Ravenwood's holder has done a great job with some bad snaps this year!

Yep I have heard about how good RHS's holder is. Some D1 schools are looking at him to come in and just hold kicks. :thumb:

Here is a power ranking that I just looked up for 5A schools:

This will be a #24 vs. #5 matchup. numbers in first column are overall rank regardless of classification.

That is why computers should never rank football teams.

Much agreed--both of these teams have been taken for granted this year and figured to have a "down" year after graduating some terrific players (i.e. preston brown, tc jennings, d. becker and many others). Last week proved that the regular season records and rankings don't always add up to playoff wins. I'm looking forward to a great chess match with the respective coaching staffs and a terrific game on the field. Good luck to the Raptors and Bears tomorrow!

Look, I've got no dog in this hunt and don't care who wins, but those turnovers you talk about weren't just open field drops. They were created by Antioch's defense. I just went to see a good game and got my money's worth. Yes, Ravenwood's defense may give Antioch trouble, but Antioch's mike backer and those two defensive ends are going to give Becker fits. Antioch's defense might just limit Ravenwood more than the other way around. Both of these teams are better than their record and this ought to be a heck of a game. You can't chalk up AHS-DC as "Dickson played poorly". AHS played very well defensively, stoppped Dickson when they had to, caused turnovers (including a great play on the interception in the endzone) and, by the way, it should have been 21-3. It was more lopsided than the score indicated.

I'm not sure how you think the score should have been 21-3. I believe the only scoring chance Antioch had in the second half resulted in an interception by Dickson County - which I guess was just a lucky play and was no where near the "great play" Antioch's defense made with their interception. As for the entire game Antioch only had three oppotunities to score. Their first scoring drive started at Dickson's 17 yard line after a 10 yard punt. Even then they scored on 4th and 6 on a pass thrown up for grabs. Their receiver went up and got it and made a great play.

I'm not questioning Antioch's defensively ability or their performance against Dickson. They performed well and kept Dickson out of the endzone.

And perhaps their offense was playing very conservative, I don't know. But they were shut out in the second half as well. Their kicking game and offensive performance simply did not impress me.

They performed well enough to win. That's all it really takes. Just because their performance didn't impress me doesn't mean they're bad. And it doesn't mean I don't think they're capable of winning. All it means is that I've observed better performances by other teams this season and one of them just happens to be Ravenwood.

The way for Antioch to win is to make the game about the lines and not the skill players. Simply put, Antioch needs to run the ball down Ravenwoods throat on offence and put a lot of presure and hits on the Ravenwood QB when Antioch is on D. If this game comes down to Ravonwood's pass & catch vs the Antioch DBs, Ravenwood wins in a rout. Antioch has to make it a game of who hits the hardest and they have to have long sestained drives based on the run that ends with a TD

This makes me appreciate the respect Ravenwood is getting by the predictions. I'm sure Antioch deserves the same respect. I just wish someone from Antioch or Region 5A would stand up and make more comments on this message board about Antioch. If Antioch can win, I would like to hear more and how.

Antioch has a great chance of pulling this one off. Antioch has to score early just as they did in the scrimmage earlier this year. I like Antioch's chances of making the "big play." McAdoo is a tall tight end with decent hands and Buchanan is the same. Antiochs QB has to play smart and try not to force things, just let the game happen. On defense Ravenwood's Oline is going to have their work cut out trying to control Antioch's DE's. Both teams are very evenly matched. Its going to come down to the cliche big plays and whoever can take care of the ball.
