Hey rebelron, how do you post a picture as your signature?

For you guys that don't know David Sweetland. Here is some info. He was a 3 year starter at Maryville High School. He was an All State player his senior year. Pound for Pound he is one of the toughest guys I ever seen.He led Maryville to the State Title game vs Pearl Cohn in 1997.

After he graduated from Maryville he played at Austin Peay. He was a 3 year starter there.

After college he coached at Lenoir City,Anderson County and Farragut. This guy is one heck of a coach. George Quarles and his dad recommended David Sweetland to Craig Kisabeth.

I think Jefferson County should take a good look at David Sweetland.

I do think if Jeff County can get it together again they will kick some butt. I remember watching that 1987 team play Tullahoma. That 87 team was awesome.

Jefferson County to scrimmage Carter at Burke-Tarr

Standard Banner Sports

Friday, April 27

DANDRIDGE - The Jefferson County football team will take a break from its spring workouts next week to scrimmage Knox Carter at Burke-Tarr Stadium on the campus of Carson-Newman College. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8.

“This is something new that we are doing this year, and hopefully the community will come out and support the team,” said JCHS interim coach Justin Anderson.

Jefferson County is coming off an 3-7 season, and saw head coach Marty Euverard and defensive coordinator Chris Smoot relinquish their duties effective last month.

Knox Carter is a Region 1-3AAA school in Strawberry Plains. The Hornets went 10-2 a year ago, losing to eventual state champion Knox Fulton in the second round of the playoffs. Carter also lost to Fulton during the regular season.

Jefferson County and Carter used to play annualy back in the late 1970’s and early 80’s. The two schools have not met during the football regular season since 1982. They were scheduled to scrimmage prior to last season, but it was cancelled just 15 minutes into the workout due weather conditions.

Jefferson County will conclude its spring session on Tuesday, May 15, with the Blue and White game at Leroy-Shannon Field. It will mark the first time the Patriots have held an intra-squad scrimmage since 2003. After the game, there will be a meeting for all parents with a child involved with Jefferson County football, including incoming freshman.

Golf Tournament

The Patriot Hills Golf Club will play host to the annual Patriot Challenge Golf Tournament, scheduled for Friday, May 18, at 1 p.m.

The event is a four-player scramble, with an entry fee of $75 dollars per player. Each golfer will receive a T-shirt, lunch, greens fees and cart rental. Lunch will be served at 12 noon.

Hole sponsorships are also needed for the tournament. All proceeds go to help the JCHS football team with travel, meal and equipment cost throughout the season.

Prizes will be awarded for the top three teams, and there will also be door prizes given out, as well as for a possible hole-in-one.

Space is limited to the first 24 teams, so please turn in registration as soon as possible. All early entries will be included in a drawing for a dozen Titleist Pro V-1 golf balls.

For more information, contact Greg Manis at (865) 471-2192, or Tim McFall at (865) 693-9697.

Patriots begin spring workouts

BY DARREN REESE

Standard Banner Sports

DANDRIDGE - A new era of football is underway in Dumplin Valley.

Almost 100 players took to Leroy Shannon Field Wednesday afternoon as Jefferson County began its spring workouts.

Under the watchful eye of interim head coach Justin Anderson, the Patriots strapped on the pads for the first time and went through a two-hour session. The team returned for another practice on Thursday before taking Friday off for Jefferson County’s prom.

“There is a great feeling among the coaches about the progression the kids have made in just two days,” said Anderson, who took over the helm when former coach Marty Euverard announced last month he was taking the offensive coordinator position at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin.

Jefferson County is currently still in the interview process of its head coaching search. Anderson is among the ten finalist for the job.

Even without a head coach in place, enthusiasm is high surrounding Jefferson County football. The number of players out for spring practice this year almost doubles the amount that participated in 2006.

“Right now, we have more than 90 dressed out, and that’s not counting our baseball players and the kids we have running track,” Anderson said. “The numbers are just tremendous. We’ve got a lot of kids out that are ready to play football. They are excited about it and us coaches are excited about it.”

Players spent the majority of the opening day working with their respective offensive position groups, but did see some full squad action the final 30 minutes. Thursday’s session focused on defense.

Destpite the interim status, Anderson and the current staff are already implimenting the basics of a veer-option offense, a switch from the I-formation ran under Euverard. Anderson metioned that changes in defensive philosophies are also being made.

“The first day, we introduced a new offensive system, and I think the kids responeded well to it,” said Anderson. “They seemed like they had fun with it. On defense Thursday, we had had kids flying around and being physical, which was good to see."

Jefferson County is operating spring workouts short-handed, as both the head coach and defensive coordinator positions are vacant. It was learned last month that Chris Smoot, who ran the defense during Euverard’s tenure, will also not be back next season.

JCHS coaches John “Buster” Brimer, Jonathan Brimer, and Rodney McCash work with the school’s track teams and are not currently available full time. Jefferson County is also looking to fill the coaching positions of the freshman football team for next fall.

“It’s really tough [not having a full staff of coaches right now],” Anderson admitted. “One day we’ve got three coaches, and one day we’ve got four, since some of our coaches coach track. It just means we’ve got to work that much harder.”

Anderson said the main objective of spring practice is to keep the large contigent of players excited about playing football in the fall, and to evaluate each individual’s strengths and weaknesses.

“The biggest thing is to take a good look at our personel and see who can play where, what posiion they are most comfortable with,” he explained. “We also want to have fun doing it. We want to make sure every kid is involved so that they will make it back out in the fall.”

Jefferson County continues the spring session for three days this week, Monday thru Wednesday. Next week, the Patriots will practice on Monday, before taking on Knox Carter in a 5:30 p.m. scrimmage at Carson-Newman’s Burke-Tarr Stadium.

After practices on Wednesday, May 9, and Monday, May 14, Jefferson County will conclude workouts with the “Blue and White” game on Tuesday, May 15 at Leroy Shannon Field. It will be the first time Jefferson County has held an intra-squad scrimmage since the spring of 2003.

“We are just trying to get people excited about this program again,” Anderson said of the extra activities. “We want the players, the parents and the community to understand what Jefferson County football is all about.”

Looks like the start of something good DZ. Not sure what all you`ve got planned but it would great to have a Jeff County message board, or team up with WJFC maybe and stream games over the internet. I know no one likes pop ups or ads, but some sponsors might help you pay the bill. I know at some other schools their booster clubs run websites, maybe the sideline club will help you out.
