Big ups to the OMS Boys on their win Saturday. Not only was Fairview ready to play, but having to overcome the Rebel Faithful was a tall task. Everyone likes the underdog and Fairview fit the bill in that one.

Huntsville proved me right with their big win over Livesay. I thought they were the more athletic team of the two. Their coaches certainly don't hurt them in their quest to bring home their second title in as many years.

Fairview's girls sent Coalfield packing to the "third place bowl". Oakdale kept Oneida sleeping long enough (whole third quarter) to ice the Lady Indians that were coming on strong in the end.

More later.......!

Huntsville and Oneida offer some interesting contrasts. Oneida's Chambers is clearly the class of the interior players......great hops, good finisher, runs floor really well for a big, and eats rebounds better than anyone when motivated. Huntsville has players that know their roles well, so they don't waste much energy with negative plays that end up getting them beat. Livesay found that out the hard way.

Livesay probably has better personnel than Fairview on paper, but Festus just manages to keep his teams in the hunt year after year....so don't count him out just yet. His guards, call them Thing 1 and Thing 2, are about as lively as anything Dr. Suess ever came up with....they are all over the floor, and are lay up machines. The most intense team will take this one, but if Fairview loses Thing 1 or Thing 2, then Livesay should win.

The girls championship game will be interesting if Oakdale can solve the Anderson led Lady Rebels puzzle. Fairview is humming right now so Oakdale will have to be on their game in this one. Oakdale is sneaky good, so if you think they are beat already, guess again.

Coalfield and Oneida is a game that all of these players will see again in the future. Who is gonna show for Oneida? If they get contributions from everyone they have the goods to beat the Yellow Jackets. Alana Jordan is known to have quite a sting all by herself. It should be interesting to watch this one too!

There should be some great games tomorrow. Starting with Girls Oneida and Coalfield playing around 5. Then, Boys Fairview and Livesay at around 6. After the Consolation games the Championship games start. Starting off with the girls championship between Fairview and Oakdale. The last game is Oneida and Huntsville?

Any predictions on the games?

I'll go out on the "proverbal" limb and go with these picks.

Coalfield - Oneida will be a scrape! Only the winner gets to advance. Coalfield has, arguably, the best individual player. Oneida has a more talented group, overall. If the Lady Indians don't hit another "swoon" like the other night I say they take this one by 6.

Livesay - Fairview is a tough call because Fairview is getting such great passion from different individuals. If they can sustain the energy they had the other night they can topple Livesay. Still, the favorite in this one has to be the Eagles because they are way deeper and pretty effective in their sets. As long as they don't make it a horse race, I'll go Livesay by 3.

Fairview - Oakdale is a fun game between two coaches that will gladly beat the other. Coach Yaden still owes Coach Snow for the "delayed" game from a couple of years back. I'd say this year he gets his revenge. Fairview by 9.

Oneida - Huntsville II is another fun one for the evening. I think Oneida had the big head last season and it cost them dearly. However, they should be more focused this season because of that "painful" lesson the Bears gave a year ago. I'm gonna ride the tribe by 7.

Todays games started off with the Lady Indians defeating Coalfield. Then, Livesay beating Fairview in a good game.

Championship Games

Fairview defeated Oakdale by 1 in a great game. Oneida then beat Huntsville 41-23 in a good match. The game was good until Jake Sexton and Bradly Brooks fouled out.

Good Luck to all teams in that are going to Sevierville for the sectionals.

Great win Lady Indians. Glad to see you have chosen to keep the tradition alive. We'll be right there to support you in Rockwood, if indeed this is where you will be playing.

I was especially happy to see an all out team effort going on up and down the court. Yea, we made some errors but the difference this time wasn't 3 it was twice that in the other direction.

I have faith in this group of young ladies. I think we have on our team several well rounded athletes playing the game. No one player that really is heads above any other. Factor in their intellegence and a little work on the patience side and we could definitely be in the Forge.

As your spirit drinks and stuff sent to school today to PUMP YA'LL UP said on the back of you little basketeball note pad...'A time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance.' I think we're working on the dancing part. Cause we want to "Dance The Big Dance" at the Forge. Get focused and stay focused. WE CAN DO THIS We love you all.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
