QUOTE(catback @ Mar 12 2007 - 09:10 AM) 826408839They went into a four corner offense during the 3rd qrt.

10Team,

It's not whining when you congratulate the other team for playing the

style of ball they are set up for, and win with it. This forum is to

post OPINIONS about the game. I have not made ONE negative remark

about a Gleason player or their coach, can you say the same!

Yes I can, I haven't made ONE negative remark about a Gleason player or coach.

They spread the whole season with the offense they run because they don't have a real inside offensive threat so they spread the floor to open up lanes to penetrate. And they also have the floor spread when OS went into their half court trap beacause if you know anything about basketball thats what you do against a half court trap, not stand people around they basket.

QUOTE(voiceofrockets @ Mar 12 2007 - 10:13 AM) 826408844if they couldn't play D why didn't OS jump to a big first half lead when Gleason wasn't "stalling"? If OS D came out then the 5 second call would have started and maybe a bad pass or turnover, but that has been said on this tread before.

Gleason plays "stall ball" because they can't play "D".

QUOTE(Regal @ Mar 12 2007 - 09:09 AM) 826408837I was going to keep my mouth shut but I've heard enough. They play" stall ball" because they can't play "D".

Lol, tell your team Gleason can't play D. If OS had come out and played Gleason man the whole game we would have probably won by 25 and Hudson would have had her 30 by shooting lay ups. Instead, OS played a bunch of defenses including zones and sagging man playing off of the Gleason post players when they were on the perimeter. This didn't allow for as many open lanes to the basket as Gleason had the first two games which was a pretty smart move by Coach Christopher. So instead of forcing shots Gleason was patient with the ball and Hudson still got her 30 just from the free throw line. Be happy your team played the way they did and that Gleason was patient, it kept your team in the game.

No you save those type of remarks about the ladies playing ball.

Once agan, you feel the need to defend the type of ball Gleason

plays, you don't need to, and you don't have throw insults at the opposing players either,

it sheds poor light on all of the other fine Gleason fans.

Ok... but I think its just that we Gleason fans take offense to the fact that OS fans came on here and tried to say Gleason won with "gimmick" basketball and try to tarnish their victory. You also said we take offense and defend "stall ball" at the same time, but thats also not true. There is a big difference in trying to hold the ball the whole 2nd half as many of your "fine" fans have tried say and looking for good shots. Regal, another OS fans opened his/her mouth and let everyone know how little they know about basketball by saying Gleason can't play D. We were really nice to people this week by slowing it down some in the second half of the first two games because at the half against Forrest and Jackson Co. the combined scores were Gleason 52 opponents 15. Now thats some stall ball and no defense!

Ok Mr. "Hollywood".Comments are a little harsh dont you think? Truth is Gleason would have won anyways. The coaching, players, crowd, and even the cheerleading squad was better. Truth is when Gleason gets going, your not stopping them. Kayla played her heart out the whole year and your sittin here whinning about the calling. thats prolly why your sitting at home watching basketball and shes the one on TV your watching!

Embrace "Stall Ball". Its the new rage in Tennessee. Forget playing "modern" basektball in the state championship on the state's biggest state- the state championship game. A game that typically illustrates great talented players, coaches, and players who give 110 percent to play an up and down game of basketball in a closely contested game that leaves fans on the edge of their seats wanting more. Instead, surrender to watching teams with a 2 point lead with almost 6 minutes left in the game hold the ball for 2 to 3 minutes daring the opposing players to come to halfcourt and foul them so they can shoot free throws.

You said it! Gleason 52 opponents 15 because they "stall the ball"!

Gleason plays "stall ball" because they can't play "D".

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
