QUOTE(catback @ Mar 11 2007 - 08:03 PM) 826408414It was a good game (which is more than I can say for the direction of this thread),

even though my team came away with the loss. Both teams had a good number of fans

in attendance, and it was a well played game by both teams. I think its fair to say, that in a game between these

two teams, both would have an equal chance of winning.

But, when it counted the most, Gleason won, and deserves

the gold ball, nothing else really matters.

I too, am proud of our girls (OS), no one gave them much of a chance

in the boro, but they showed they could play like champions and could

compete with champions!!

GCPioneer,

You need to report your English teacher to the school board, because

she's not doing you any justice. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Oh man you shot me down...I'll tell her next time I see her what you said and see what she thinks...last time I checked this wasn't English class 1 on 1..don't get your feelings hurt that your team lost to the better team

QUOTE(10teamdistrictisajoke @ Mar 11 2007 - 08:35 PM) 826408445You might want to tell coach Christopher that you all weren't trying to foul in the fourth quarter because she repeatedly said in the post game interviews that in the fourth quarter her team had to foul and hope Gleason missed a free throw so that her team could get the ball back. But then again I'm sure she wouldn't know....

Yea they had to foul in the last couple of minutes and hope for a miracle, but they picked up the fouls early in the quarter by simply trying to make something happen on the defensive end with traps and aggressive in-your-face defense. At that point the strategy wasn't to send Gleason to the charity stripe it was to try to force a turnover. What should they have done, sit back and not try to pick up a steal or force a turnover? Unfortunately for the Lady 'Cats, Gleason didn't cooperate. They held on to the ball and forced OS into hoping a team that rarely misses a free throw would suddenly go cold.

I never said Gleason's strategy was bad. If you've got that kind of ball handling and free throw shooting then play to your strengths. I just said I didn't enjoy watching it because it was a bit on the boring side. I don't like watching games in which a team wins 90-80 that much either. I'd rather watch a low scoring, defensive battle any day.

QUOTE(GCPioneer @ Mar 11 2007 - 07:58 PM) 826408407You be in the shoes of Coach Frazier...IF you were going after a GOLD BALL and you had the lead you WOULD NOT be trying to score more and more points...run the clock and keep the lead...I guess that's the difference in east, middle, and west TN...coaches here teach to keep a lead and win the game... /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

I will be honest here. I'd never stall the ball for an entire quarter. That thought wouldn't even cross my mind until the final 2 or 3 minutes of the game.

But I'll add that I never have and I never will win a state championship. In fact, I'll probably never win a single game on the high school level so my opinion really doesn't mean much. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hey goosevol...I`m not really a fan of either team even though I was pulling for Gleason since they are from the area. But I can imagine it would be boring maybe even frustrating watching Gleason play that way in the 4thquarter from an OS fan standpoint. But I have to guess it was very exciting for Gleason fans to watch that clock wind down like it did in the 4th quarter like it did. I guess it would be a matter of prospective.

I`ve seen that same strategy back fire plenty of times. I don`t recall OS ever coming all out to get the ball. I`m sure if the post players had come out Gleason would have started looking for some back door lay-up. Usually that is the purpose of stalling the ball. You try to maintain possession and only take a lay up if it comes open.

I agree with you though, I wouldn`t have thought of doing it until the last couple of minutes, but I`ve never seen Gleason play before. It`s obvious they have really worked hard on that and executed it brilliantly. It`s definitely Old School, but it worked. The credit though goes to Gleason`s FT shooting. if they shoot free throws like a normal team OS could have crept back in the game and forced Gleason to get back into their normal offense.

QUOTE(muffin @ Mar 11 2007 - 09:48 PM) 826408462You play your style of game to win,Gleason did that ,O.S. did not,Congrats to the Gleason Lady Dawgs.

Your exactly right, but why is it that most, not all, but most of the Gleason posters

on here, object to the "stall ball" remarks. It was stall ball, Gleason started playing

stall ball in the 3rd Qrt, with a four point lead. It's as if these poster find it offensive,

yet defend it at the same time. Oh, and OS did play the exact style of ball which got them

to the tourny, but they had too many missed shots and turnovers, IMO.

Gleason didn't play stall ball in the 3rd quarter. Your post players were too lazy to come out and guard our post players one of which stays on the perimeter in our offense to set ball screens and as a pressure release. Our post players (Freshmen might I add) were smart enough to hold it out there since they weren't being guarded. It's really entertaining listening to yall whine and saying it was bad coaching for us not to jack up shots with a lead in the 4th quarter. And to the poster that said yall picked up fouls early in the quarter, go back and watch the tape. OS had 1 foul until 4:02 in the fourth quarter and Gleason had a 4 point lead. Oliver Springs then fouled for a 2nd time and called a timeout. In that time out I can PROMISE you Christopher was telling her team they had to start fouling because they were 5 fouls from the bonus. GOOD COACHING from Gleason (and anyone with basketball sense which is obviously lacking from OS posters) realized this and tried to protect the ball because they knew the fouls were coming. Maybe Hudson should have pulled a #5 and drove in with two people on here and bricked a fall away, off balance jumper from 15 feet so yall could have had a chance!! I've heard all about this "stall ball" for the whole second half and its kind of funny since Oliver Springs even had a lead at one point towards the end of the 3rd quarter. Quit whining and enjoy your silver ball because Gleason would have beat you 10 out of 10 times and if we would have shot it from the field like we had the last month it would have been a blowout!

I was going to keep my mouth shut but I've heard enough. They play" stall ball" because they can't play "D".

They went into a four corner offense during the 3rd qrt.

10Team,

It's not whining when you congratulate the other team for playing the

style of ball they are set up for, and win with it. This forum is to

post OPINIONS about the game. I have not made ONE negative remark

about a Gleason player or their coach, can you say the same!

if they couldn't play D why didn't OS jump to a big first half lead when Gleason wasn't "stalling"? If OS D came out then the 5 second call would have started and maybe a bad pass or turnover, but that has been said on this tread before.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
