QUOTE(nuetral @ Apr 23 2007 - 10:58 AM) 826443310Does anyone have any idea on who it is gonna be, or if they have some kind of deadline that they want to meet. Are they going to try to have spring practice or are the adminstrators waiting til summer? It seems like they would try to get someone in place as soon as possible. Already in a tough region so whoever it is, they need time to get in there and get to know the players and the rest of the coaching staff. I would guess that whoever comes in is stuck with the current coaching staff.

If its left up to Haney, who knows? We have to keep in mind that the current staff is very young, so it needs to be someone with experience. I am not saying that these guys are bad because they are very good young coaches but they need someone with experience to lead them. That is why I say Bennett, because he knows alot of the players and asst. coaches and when he was here before as DC He was such positive influence on the players. As far as teaching positions go. they could put him at a elementary sch. or give him the opportunity to go and get certified for whatever classes are going to be available. He could go in the summer. My thing about Smith is, there were 3 or 4 Head jobs open in the Chatt. area and I never seen his name mentioned, maybe he didn't apply for them. does anyone know?

Coach Smith teaches in the business department at Soddy. Coach Smith is as much as an influence on the players spiritual life as he is on the field. As I have said before, if McMinn is looking for a person that will provide discipline, structure, spiritual leadership, and give the kids the best chance to win, then they will not pass on him. As for him being mentioned for other head coaching jobs, I am not sure what he has applied for, but the few that I do, he was a finalist.

QUOTE(stinger03 @ Apr 23 2007 - 10:09 AM) 826443373Oskie1 has lost all credability

Grubb changed things on us....I think they are making sure they have all of there ducks in a row. They have some teachers that are retiring in the system so they are attempting to find the best coach while @ the same time they want to have a teaching spot.

Sorry for the bad info. I just went off of what my inside source told me.....

Surely we will have a coach in place by May 1st?????

On another note there was another inquiry about the job from Virginia.....The guys name was Phil Robbins who lived here in Athens as a child when his dad was a methodist minister.....he won multiple state championships in Virginia and called to inquire about the job and was not given the time of day. Knowing the administration @ MCHS they probably did not have a clue who he was and blew him off.

That is great to hear about Coach Smith. The way our world is today our kids need spiritual leadership and discipline. I hope it is between Smith and Bennett. But, if i was guessing i would say they are trying to find a way to fit Cagle in a classroom. It has been rumored that Coach Daughtery has applied for jobs in the Knoxville area and his wife also resigned her position as asst. girls basketball coach and Volleyball coach. They may be waiting to see if those two jobs come open. It is sad that a school the size of Mcminn don't pay their Head football coach as much as what they do. Someone had mentioned Mike Martin from Meigs, but i would say he would have had to take a pay cut. I heard that Bennett would be taking a pay cut if he got the job. That is bad when a head coach from a 3-A school and a Defensive Cord. from the same region makes more than the Mcminn head job.

Coach Smith, I'm sure, would be taking a pay cut as well. Hamilton Co. assistant football supplement is very good, 15%. Seems to me that McMinn would want to have someone in place pretty soon. There is only a few weeks left in the school year. It they wait much longer, it will be hard for any coach to come in and get thing rolling. Good thing this is not next year where football will not have the month of June to use per TSSAA. Hopefully they will make their decision soon. I still think Smith is the man for the job.

I hope that the Cherokees are not going to wait too long in selecting a new coach. Have good young staff to work with in Massingale and Goodin. Might be long year for Tribe if hire is made after June 1. Hard enough to compete in that region if team changes offensive or defensive schemes in less than 3 months.

McMinn has a really good young staff. They'll have talent back to work with. The Athens newspaper reported last week a hire had been made but it will not be announced since there are no coaching positions available. Rumor has it Daugherty's wife has resigned her teaching and coaching position effective at the end of school. Supposedly they're going to move towards Knox County. That could possibly open up 2 teaching positions. Paper was hopeful a coach would be announced wtihin a few weeks. I think their spring practice starts Monday, but not positive about that.

rumor has it they are not going to hire a coach till after spring football... wow that would be another dumb move by HANEY AND GRUBB. but they make alot of dumb moves at that school as far as bringing in coaches ...Quirk, Daugherty what had they done to deserve those jobs plus both of those guys came into programs loaded with players..... look what happened to us when those two were hired................................................. and now they both walk away....if they wait till after spring football they are setting the new coach up for failure..

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
