cobracoach
The Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Association (MTSCA) announces plans to raise money for senior Dickson County softball player Kayla Cantrell. Spectators will be asked to “Pitch In @ the Gate” with cash donations to help Kayla and her family offset the medical expenses resulting from Kayla’s battle with cancer. Kayla has been diagnosed with supratentorial PNET (primitive neuroectodermal tumors), in which malignant cells form in tissues of the brain. The plan is for member schools to collect donations at their admission gate during home games throughout the week of April 23 thru 27th. The collected money will be forwarded to the MTSCA’s treasurer and the proceeds will be presented to Kayla and her family on June 13th at MTSCA's All Star game which will be played at Middle Tennessee State University. Kayla is currently undergoing chemotherapy and cranial-spinal radiation at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. The Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Association (MTSCA) also encourages its teams to wear lime green ribbons or shoelaces during this week to honor Kayla. Lime green is her favorite color. Anyone who wishes to make a donation, but is unable to attend a local high school game, can donate to The Kayla Cantrell Benefit Fund which has been set up at TriStar Bank in Dickson. The Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Association is comprised of more than 150 high school coaches from 79 Middle Tennessee high schools. Information about MTSCA is found at their website. hawksoftball
Last Thursday night when Rossview's Lady Hawks played Dickson, the Rossview Lady Hawks all wanted to wear lime green shoe laces, [ It took about 6 trips to 4 different Walmarts to get enough, so if you want to do this start early. ] It was one of the most inspirational games I've been a part of. Both teams always play each other tough and it's always a close game, but it's also a game where both teams have a great deal of respect for each other, not only for the way each other plays, but for the closeness that each team has built. Seeing both teams on the field with lime green shoe laces and ribbons in their hair showed everyone there that this was more than just a softball game, but a field on which 2 rival teams could show compassion and love for each other. We wish the best for Kayla and pray she can beat this cancer. The booster club at Rossview was able to give the proceeds from their concession stand that night plus have a donation bucket and was able to present to the coaches at Dickson on Kayla's behalf a check for $800.00. We hope all the other member schools that are able to do this are as successful and reap the benefits that we did at Rossview, it was something our girls will never forget. Outie05
This is a great idea. Harpeth is going to help support this. I think it is great that we can still help other people out even though we're not from the same team! Kayla, her family, & her team will be in our prayers! afaninthestands
As a parent of a player on the Dickson County Softball Team - I can't begin to let you how impressed we are with the support we are seeing for Kayla from other teams. To see the Rossview team on the field with their lime green shoe laces and lime green ribbons in their hair - was very moving. I can assure you there weren't many dry eyes in the stands. To read that other teams are joining in to support Kayla means so much to our team. This is something that most of our players, coaches and families have not had to deal with before and the support you are showing is making an impact. If you have a picture of your team - please email me at lisadampf@aol.com. We would like to put something together to show Kayla how many other softball families are thinking about her and praying for her. I've listed a link that you can go to for updates on Kayla. You can also post well-wishes to her through the caringbridge site. www.caringbridge.org/visit/kaylacantrell Thanks again and please keep Kayla, her family and our team in your prayers.
