QUOTE(ihavenofriendzz @ May 13 2007 - 05:39 PM) 826458549Based on what I saw from the West/Karns game last night when it was on tv I would say that Karns had no offense. They were on defense for 90% of that game.

QUOTE(Soccer Gypsy @ May 13 2007 - 08:57 PM) 826458691How much will it help Karns that their coach knows some of these Farragut players well? Will his knowledge of their strengths and weaknesses help them at all in this game?

the fact that mike coaches most of farragut boys won't make any difference. it might if there were maybe one or two good players...but farragut's team has 11 of them. they can't man mark the whole team. farragut has way too much skill and talent to be contained or contested by karns. farragut 5-0 only b/c they put in their subs

Karns has by far the better coach in Mike McClean, but that just won't help against a team dominated by his own club players. Knowing a player's weaknesses won't help you if you don't have the power to deal with his strengths. Farragut wins this one in spite of their severe disadvantage in the coaching department. Farraget's players will take the team the rest of the way, too, I predict.

Enjoy it, Boys!

Although I think Mike has done an outstanding job this year, I think this post is a bit of a low blow to Culbreth and the rest of the Farragut coaching staff. I am sure the Farragut coaches have given it there all this year, and the time and dedication that they give to kids deserves respect.

I, too, disagree with a lot of the decisions that Culbreth makes, but I am sure parents and fans disagree with a number of decisions that I make. Let's also not forget the Culbreth has taken his team to a state championship on more than one occasion, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have another great run this year.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
