Actually they were the winners. But I cant find anything in the rules that says the premier league winner are automatically in.

Quoting from RPL Rules

"Teams

Each US Youth Soccer National State Association may allow club teams in the following age categories for Boys and Girls; U14, U15, U16, U17, and U18 to apply for acceptance.

The US Youth Soccer National State Association will determine their teams that may apply for acceptance. (Generally it is anticipated that the club teams will be the Winner and Runner-up of the State's most recent Championship tournament, or in the case of an existing competitive league available to all state association teams, the Champion and Runner-up teams based on the teams prior full-year standing.) Participation is open to any properly registered competitive team in good standing with the member of the US Youth Soccer National State Association.

The US Youth Soccer Region III Premier League (R3PL) Sub-Region Committee shall have the authority to accept teams for competition that have approved applications from their US Youth Soccer National State Association. The R3PL Committee shall have the final authority to accept teams and reserves the right to refuse admittance of any team based upon the team’s prior performance in the Premier League (i.e. repeated failure to play matches, failure to comply with league rules, excessive misconduct, etc.)."

Hopefully the State will do the right thing and give the spot to the team that beat the Region Three Premier League Champions in the Semi-Final.

US Youth Soccer Region III Premier League

The US Youth Soccer Region III Premier League provides an opportunity for the most competitive teams in Region III to play each other on a scheduled basis. The league will be comprised of boys and girls in the age groups of U-14 through U-18. Each National State Association (NSA) decides what will be the criteria for selecting teams to be considered for inclusion in the upcoming Premier League season. Typically the prior years PL champion in an age group, the state cup finalist(s) or the champion of an instate league are potential candidates. Each NSA is invited to present at least two (2) teams in each age group/gender. Games are scheduled in the fall or the spring, depending on local customs in a sub-region or state.

This is on the Premier League website and I believe Tennessee follows this criteria.

It sounds like tnfc, xpress and the strikers could all play in the premier league. Last year there were 3 teams from LA or MS, not sure which one but one state did have 3 teams.

For what its worth four of six Premier League Champions from Tennessee did not make the final of the State Cup. And the R3PL Central is 10 teams and unless one of the other states does not recommend two teams, then only two TN teams will get in. It will be interesting to see what TN does with this situation. Recommend the teams for this year's success at State Cup, or for past achievements. In my opinion, if they recommend last year's R3PL winners, they diminish the value of their own state tournament.

It would be the same for the state cup as well. The state tournament was held in the same year as the premier league. It is a hard decision. My opinion is that tnfc beat the Express 2-0 earlier in the year, and lost 1-0 at the state. Both teams are excellent and one can beat the other on any given day.

QUOTE(FR Ext @ Jun 14 2007 - 06:13 PM) 826475183[/snapback]It would seem like the State Champ and Finalist would be the first two choices. In theory, they earned the spot by doing the best in the tournament. Just curious.. Did you hear this decision from a reliable source?

Yes, I heard it from a TN soccer state representative.
