I don't know you or your Doctor. But I do know there are good doctors and there are bad doctors. There is doctors that will say what ever you want to hear to get your money. If he said you had cancer would you ask for another opinion? A specialist right? So is your doctor a nutritional specialist?

The container clearly states not for use if you are under 18 yrs old. Follow that direction on the label ALSO.

You call me ignorant because I abide by the warning on the label???? Whats that say for you ignoring the warning?>? That you were smart?? Warning labels are just that. They have been put there for a reason. WARNINGS to release them from liability if you ignore them. I guess you choose to take the chance. I choose not to. I don't think its ignorance. I think its a matter of opinion. I choose to drive a Honda. That make me ignorant too? You use that word freely. I assume your education level is sub par. As a well educated person knows the difference between an opinion and ignorance. By the way I am glad your son was not adversely effected by the product you allowed him to take while he was still under your care and guidance. The next kid may not be as lucky.

The smartest thing you have said was use the product exactally as prescribed. It is not prescribed to be used by kids under the age of 18. It also stated it could cause death. That clear enough?

I looked at the stuff your son had. You were right to not let him take it. It had high levels of creatine plus nitric oxide boosters and stimulants. All banned by the NCAA. Some of the "natural" stimulants have been linked to heat related sports deaths

Most of the other suppliments did not have that warning on them but they did not contain the nitric oxide boosters and stimulants. The suppliments with no creatine or low doses of creatine did not have that warning. I think being fully informed and having parents involved is the best thing.

Just how exactly could a protein shake cause death? That has got to be the funniest thing I have ever read in my entire life. Protein and creatine are harmless! All they do is help you. Also, creatine does not cause dehydration it prevents it. If you'd read the LABEL you would know that create puts the water and nutrients you take in into your muscle cells at a greater rate. If there's more water in your muscle, guess what happens....you don't get dehydrated!

Read the warning label on NO EXLODE. Thats where I got my information. If it could not cause death why would they put it on the product they are trying to sell? I will tell you. To not be held liable if you drop dead from using it. People with health problems such as diabetes are instructed not to use it( on the lable). Come on folks do you ever read the labels past the front advertisment on how great it is?

NO Explode is not a protein shake. It's more of a gimmick product, and I honestly know very little about it. I'm talking about whey/cassein protein shakes. Also, you never answered my questioned, does your son eat at McDonalds? What do you think is going to kill him? A protein shake or a double quarter pounder with cheese, fries, and a coke?

MO$$$$,

You and I are definitely talking about different products. My apologies for the "ignorant" comment. The product my son took was just plain creatine and didn't have any of those warnings like "could cause death" or "not for under 18". Never heard of No Explode, but sounds like I wouldn't have let him take that one.

The reason I reacted so is that some around my area gave me a hard time for letting him take creatine and the protein shakes. They did so out of ignorance and fearing what they didn't know. I would NEVER have allowed him to take a product that warned of death and not for anyone under 18. So, again, we are obviously talking about different products. There are some out there that are safe.

Oh, FYI, my doctor was middle of the road about the stuff. He stressed about the dehydration possibility, to follow the directions, and to not take during the season. He wasn't crazy about it, but he said there was nothing bad if taken properly and with PLENTY of water!

The kids were calling this product protein shakes. We have a few adults here that are body builders. I am sure they ask about the best product you can use to gain muscle without steroids in casual conversation. Or they have read about it in books or internet. Being kids they wanted to look like the adults that have been at it for a while. They went out and bought it without checking into anything. Thats my point. They should not sell it to a kid.

Guess what I made it a point to walk into GNC and ask for something to build muscle and they recommended the product as the best you can get without steroids. I understand there is safe products out there. My son uses whey. My point is there is products out there kids should not take. I suggest to parents if your kid is taking something , look into it and make sure it is a safe product. Thats what I did when I found the product. That was last year at spring practice. Since then I purchase what he uses. I was merely trying to point out there is products kids should not take. That kids refer to as protein shakes. I am glad we worked this out. I dont think either one of us are ignorant for our comments. Maybe it will open some eyes.

Then again I am sure since these are opinions that others out there would disagree with both of us.

Again I plea to the public. Please read any warnings on the labels. They are there for a reason. There is safe products and there is not so safe products. They will sell them to a kid as they are not regulated. This is a plea from someone who has experienced it first hand. Good kids can get into bad situations. Thats what parents are for. To monotor our kids and guide them on the right path.

Read post #54. I dont feel like repeating it. All kids do Mc Donalds. Yes I have talked with him about the dangers of fast foods. Then its hard to control what he eats when he is not with me. After he gained a few pounds to many in the wrong places. He eats the snack wraps and salads at Mc Donalds when he is with me. Out with his friends, I hope the same. If you know of a way of controling what a kid eats when he is out with friends other than I have already used. Please advise me. I am in the opinion it takes a village to raise a child. I am listening.

It gets harder everyday in this fast changing world to keep up. From new fast foods to drugs, its always something to contend with. Everything is advertised with a catchy word or phrase. Directed to our kids.

Maybe I should open a thread on energy drinks also. This is doing good.

Why would anyone let their kids drink those nasty shakes ? A good balanced diet is all they need. My boy went from 5/9 155 lbs. in the 7th grade to 6/4 270 lbs. in 12th grade and has never tasted a protein anything. He does love CHICKEN . He could eat it 4 times a day. It must have made him smarter too , he made a 32 on his act. THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. PS love them for who they are not for something you want them to be , they grow up it seems in a blink of an eye.

haha I chose to drink protein shakes to gain weight and after a few weeks I became adjusted to the taste of those "nasty" shakes. Now I actually enjoy the taste and crave them if I haven't had one in a few days. Protein shakes are a supplement to a balanced diet, a way to get more protein in your diet without packing in extra fat. My protein shakes didn't dumb me down either; I made a 33 on the ACT

Congradulations , you too are in the top two percent of those who have taken the test. You can get a free ride anywhere you want to go and if you get a football scolarship the Hope Lottery will give you over 4000 a year if you have a high enough GPA. Write back asap and let us know how old you are and big you are. That 33 will still be with you when the knees are gone........

haha I just graduated in the spring so I've already gotten my offers. I had interest from smaller schools such as Washington and Lee, Centre College, and Maryville College but instead chose to go to Tennessee on a full academic scholarship. Last year as a senior I was 6'1'' and weighed 215 pounds but was fairly undersized as an offensive lineman. I was recruited to play outside linebacker. I just turned 18 so it's too bad I don't have another year of ball to play. But thanks for the congratulations. And again, I do love my protein shakes
