And that's when they count

Of course it doesn't count. Everybody knows that. All that matters is the Varsity years. All VolMan was saying is that these guys are pretty good this year...and it just so happens that they've been good for quite some time. Some players "bloom" in their Senior year...wheras some start blooming as soon as they walk. God gives it in different doses to different people at different times. I'm sure you are familar with examples of this in the Tribe program. The Colonial Heights and Sullivan programs have been successful for years...Bob Bingham, Robert St. Clair, Hunter Jordan. But until Stacy came on board there just has not been any consistency in the South program. The athletes have always been there. DB can feel good going back through the years and remembering one good coach after another...and feeling confident that it will be no different with GC's successor. In the 'Heights, we've discussed this issue since the 5th grade wondering how it would turn out. We're exstatic. We can't calm down. Just bear with us for a bit. It's the same with Elizabethton's Junior crop. They were very good coming up through the ranks...all the way back to rec ball and have gotten a quality coach in the nick of time. They will be a force in '08.

E-Towns bunch that left in 07 beat them bad their fresh. and soph. years that was the bunch that

won the conference the last two years and South was the best team. Like you said South did it when it

counted and E was not allowed to do when they should have. South will make it 3 in a row I do not

see any one up here slowing Carters Crew. I guess a lot of the faithful wish that you had DB this year.

E is fighting for respect and a playoff berth. That would be a huge accomplishment for this team, knowing

where they came from and knowing where they would have been if a few changes would not have

been made. Most of Betsy is not looking forward to the South game. Good Luck and have a great

season to all.

I feel good about NET. We already see evidence of change (for the better) in many programs. SHHS leading the way with Volunteer, 'Betsy, J County, Central, East, and Unicoi all finding their way. It was but just a very few short years ago that South was out of major contention. With of course DB and THS forging ahead. I refuse to concede that NET does not have the athletes. Instead we did not have the coaches...and now we do. This notion will be proved right or wrong in the next 2 years. North will be the only casualty. Their community is disappearing leaving Coach Norris with a large job ahead. It is a labor of love for him...at his AlmaMater. We at South will calm down by the first of the week and get back to the mental job ahead. We must come back to Earth and go back to the trenches. We also have much work to do. Particularly with our running game and our kicking game. Stacy concentrated on QB/WR timing from Spring through week 0 with abandon. Now we must get the rest up to speed. No one is untuchable in MLC...especially South.

The South program was very consistent the first 15 years of the school's history (80-95). I agree that the success of a class from Optimist through middle school doesn't give any indication of what the result will be when they are on the Varsity. Don't blame South's lean years in the late 90's and early 00's purely on coaching. Coaches can do a lot, but talent does a lot more. There was a dry spell on talent coming through South for several years when they had losing records. There still were some good athletes, but as a whole the talent pool was down. Vince Lombardi would not have had many more wins coaching South during the same time frame.

Back to tonights game. I am really interested in the play calling by Coach Smith. Will tell alot about if he is a systems guy or has the ability to see and adjust to the talent he has. Think the defense will do ok. Either way think the toppers win fairly big. GO TOPPERS!

I think tonight will be a more realistic view of the'Toppers that we will see for the remainder of the season.

i thought this thread was about SH and Betsy? Can Sh fans not get over and move on over South beating them last week? Just imigine the melt down they will have IF Betsy upsets them tonight... OMG! they will be ready to fire coach smith after 2 games

I hope the football team and coaches are still taking about last week like some of you fans...

    • Good ole Bradley Zulliger. He was a really good QB @ OR. Fun to watch.  Wore #15 and was like a mini Tebow, with the exception of being right handed. He could take a pounding and keep on ticking. Played with a collapsed lung against Powell that year. Tough as nails.
    • They should be pretty good in year two for Rang.  Replacing most of the offensive production losing Dozier, Hayward and Rembert , but they're are skill kids in place ready for their shot.  I know I say this every year, but the o line should show improvement after two years in Rang and Kevin Day's weight program.  I still would favor West over Plow and OR come November.  The Rebs will have to grow up a bunch between now and then, and will probably take some lumps along the way with that schedule.  But I predict come playoff time they will be ready.   One of their coaches half joked to me that they could go 5-5 regular season and win the state championship.  Ha ha.
    • there will be a couple of teams, that could make some noise
    • Dyersburg may win back to back to back championships. They are going to be hands down the best 3A team. Plus their District/region/sectionals are not very good. They basically just have to make it to region out of a 5 team district that has a few decent teams. South Gibson will be okay but they graduate their best player and there is nobody in the region 7 or region 8 who is going to compete with them.
    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
