They said on TV he got X-Rays, and it is a bruised collarbone. Hope that's right.

What a great game, and a very gutty performance by Smyrna coming back and almost winning it without their star QB. Whomever said Smyrna's "season is shot" is just plain wrong. IMO, both teams are better for playing this game, and it was a real treat for the fans.

...and Sharptop, that really may well be one of the most idiotic posts ever on CoachT, and that's saying a lot!

Hey Itzme,

I hope you are doing well; long time...

Who played well tonight? Was CJ back at full speed? How was the D?

Thanks!

Hope the QB is OK for Smyrna!

blackman has a legit shot against smyrna (felt that way even before smyrna dropped 2 straight, they also hung with them 3 quarters last year), even better without sonny. i hope sonny gets back for the rest of the season but if he needs to sit out against blackman i hope he does. good thing he is committed to vandy i would hate to see his baseball career put in jeopardy

It was a line-dominated, smash mouth game. CJ looked pretty much 100%, but Smyrna did a great job keeping him in check. Defenses were really very good for both teams. The difference in the game was a long TD pass play by BA...otherwise no real game-breakers.

Welcome back to the T!

Good to be back. I've been working too hard /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Glad to hear BA is playing well, and glad to hear that CJ is back full speed.

Sounds like I missed a great game.

Glad to have gotten out of there with a win. Smyrna was tough......much better than I expected. BA needs to find a way to get CJ more into the offense than just at RB. When he goes in the game, everyone knows 80% of the time, it is going to him. The defense keys on him, and he has no blocking back. I have not seen him make cuts since I have watched him play. It is basically about him vs. whoever wants to try to take him down. CJ runs to bull over people. Of course, I am no coach, but I believe the way he is utilized could get him hurt.....no blocking back, folks keying on him, and everyone knows he is going to get the ball. On top of that, he runs very straight up and does not go down easy. It takes 4-6 guys on him to get him down. When he gets the ball, it is him against the defense. I would think he could do well as a slot/wr as well.

Our WR's could not hold onto the ball tonight. The defense played well, and I believe it is encouraging that good defenses win championships. BA has a good defense. The offense still has some catching up to do to the D. Our big boys really hurt the Smyrna RB's and QB, as when they would tackle them, the DL would land on them. #22 will be sore tomorrow, as will several others.

Glad to hear Sonny Gray is not hurt serious. It would have been a shame. He is a really good athlete.

It was a great game--went right down to the wire. Smyrna had a chance to win it with a TD, but were stopped in the red zone. It was sort of a tale of two halfs. BA was really in control offensively the first half scoring all 17 of their points. They ran out of time on the 4 yard line and had to kick a FG just before half time.

Smyrna played much better the 2nd half. Their defense was very tough and they really shut down the BA running game. Smyrna's passing offense could not get going in the 1st half b/c of the pressure on the QB. Sonny obviously did not play the 2nd half. He took several hard hits in the 1st half from BA's big D-Line. Although Smyrna did a good job running the ball in the 2nd half. #22 is very quick and shifty. He was hard to stop for a couple of drives. I must admit, BA did an excellent job on Wilks. I believe he had just one catch on the night and no TD's.

BA's defense was very strong again. It seemed like they wore down a bit in the 2nd half, but that's b/c they were on the field constantly. The offense struggled mightily in the 2nd half. Defenses are really keying in on stopping the running game and it's proved effective. BA's soph. QB, Nelson, is getting better with time and made some nice throws tonight. He'll continue to improve and so will their offense with time.

BA has Baylor next week at home.

Smyrna is loaded with heart. That is the main thing that I will take away.

Sonny is one heck of a good kid and I hope he is back out there in a hurry.

I agree. Smyrna played to win. They had plenty of heart. I thought #7 brought a totally diffrent element to the game at QB. He played well. I would not have wanted to play Smyrna another quarter. They had lots of momentum behind them. They almost caught that ball at the 3 at the end of the game. Our D was tired at the end. BA #72 came up big in throwing Smyrna for a loss at the end. I hope Coach Potter remembers to take the points (field goal) instead of going for it on 4th and 9 at their 25. That almost cost us the game. Oh yeah.....and NOT to continuously kick it to Wilkes. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> COACHES.....if you play Smyrna, DO NOT kick/punt it to WIlkes unless you want to get burned bad. Phenomenal athlete.

#72 = Alex Bullard. I thought he may have had the play of the game. BA was on their heels in that last drive until Bullard made that play. Great game for both teams. I'm glad BA won, but it could have gone the other way easily. Had Smyrna made the extra point on their third quarter touchdown we might still be playing OT . . .

    • Never in my life have I seen a team in a scrimmage against their own defense look so lost and confused. The defense didn’t look much better, the coaching staff can’t keep their anger together, not only with the players but also with their other coaches. I feel awful for those players. None of them look like they wanted or should’ve been out there, but for the grown men on the sidelines acting like fools, it's just embarrassing to the Farragut name and reputation. I now see why they chose not to live stream this on their YouTube channel.
    • We could sure use some math teachers country wide. Ever go into a store or restaurant and the bill comes to $9.97 and you give them a ten dollar bill and 2 pennies because you wanted a nickle back and then the meltdown starts and the next thing two more people have to come and help figure it out and the place comes to a complete halt. I see this everyday and it's a sad representation of all these schools allowing these kids out the door to get shortchanged the rest of their life.
    • I like the Pirates chances. I’ll be there as soon as work allows.
    • Stars, I heard we were searching far and wide for some math teachers. Any chance their kids bench press or 40 times are getting checked? LOL I’ve heard good things from 825.
    • I think it was expected. “Bad” luck I guess to get a couple difference maker QBs in the same class. I thought the decision was made a little early myself, but they were struggling offensively last year.  I assume the running quarterback alco had last year would be a senior this fall, and the transfer would start the following two years in addition to getting a ton of playing time this year. Maybe he waits two yrs, but I doubt it. The kid is good. So is the one who stayed.
