Team looked good. Especially early. Everyone played , and most everyone scored. Keep it up. I think everyone is starting to jell. Play good defense and take care of the ball and everything else will take care of itself.

I was very impressed with Beech. They shoot very well, but thats nothing new. But what is new is their athleticism. I cant believe Gallatin beat them by 23. White House will have to play better next time they play Beech if they hope to win. The 1-3-1 always seems to give White House problems. Always. White House had too many turnovers tonight, and couldn't make free throws. Take care of the ball and play good defense and everything else will take care of itself.

Richards High School earns top seed at CHT

CARBONDALE - Dwyane Wade would be proud.

 

H. L. Richards High School out of Oak Lawn, Wade's alma mater, earned the top seed at this year's Southern Illinois Orthopedic Center Carbondale Holiday Tournament, announced Tuesday. The Bulldogs (7-0) return nine players from last year's 26-3 squad and will present three Division I recruits at SIU Arena beginning Dec. 27.

 

Carl Richard, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound forward, has committed to Indiana State. Guard Tommie Thomas will play football for Illinois next fall, and 6-7 forward Shaun Pratl is being recruited for football and basketball at the next level.

 

Richards begins its first CHT appearance at approximately 1 p.m. against last year's top seed, Bartlettt, Tenn. Along with Peoria High School, Richards was the only Illinois school to earn a top-eight seed.

 

Oviedo, Fla., (6-0) the second seeds, are the second-ranked team in Central Florida by the Orlando Sentinel. Memphis University High (7-1), the defending Division II state champions of Tennessee, return as the third seeds and will play East Peoria.

 

The fourth seeds could be the centers of the tournament, as McCluer North (Mo.) (2-0) brings three Division I recruits, two of them headed to Southern Illinois University. Guard Torres Roundtree and 6-8 forward Anthony Booker, the 29th-best player in the country by Unapproved Website, are both headed to the arena next winter. Femi John, a shooting guard for the defending Class 5 Missouri state champs, is headed to Saint Louis. McCluer North opens with Cumberland County, Tenn., and could meet Peoria in Friday's 3 p.m. semifinal.

 

Peoria features D.J. Richardson, an Illinois recruit, and is the fifth seed in the 16-team field. Peoria opens against the Terriers, who are 1-4 heading into this weekend.

 

All-session tickets are $30, while per-session tickets are $5. Students can get an all-tournament pass for $15.
