Coach of the year, so far...

REGION 1-5A is the weakest region in the state. only 3 teams have winning records... as opposed to 2-5A. which almost every team has a winning record. COACH EDDIE COURTNEY. FARRAGUT.

 

 

I wouldn't argue against Coach Courtney. He's an outstanding coach, and his team has had a tremendous year. In a profession filled with good guys, Eddie Courtney is among the best.

 

My question -- why would you argue against Brad Taylor? You could have simply made your case for Coach Courtney without deriding what Bearden has accomplished this year. While I agree that Region 2 is stronger than Region 1, I can't say that Region 1 is weaker than 3, 5 or 7. Keep in mind, too, that Bearden has knocked off 2 of those mighty Region 2 teams in the playoffs.

 

Also, 5 of 8 teams (with winning records) is hardly "almost every team."

How about coach Eubanks from Independence? State championship game in his first season as a coach, and an incredibly classy individual.

Daniel McGugin, 13-0, including wins over Hillsboro and Independence, thumping Brentwood Academy twice, to become State Champions. This follows a 4-6 record from last year. All in his first year. He should be at the top of the list. No doubt.

The Ryan and Independence coaches also have done a great job, as have several others, for sure. There are others in other parts of the state that I am not as familiar with.

McGugin (MBA) and Eubanks (Indy) are two fine choices.

I would have to think Maplewood Coach Ralph Thompson deserves such an honor. For a coach to establish football displine in a Metro inner city school football program off Dickerson Road is a tall task for any coach and Coach Thompson should be recognized for his accomplishment this year. If anyone told me Maplewood would be playing Maryville for the 4A championship before Maplewood defeated Hillsboro, I would be asking for your commitment to the insane asylum.

Coach McGugin gets my vote. Ricky Bowers would be my second choice.

You must remember that the win they had over Indy was against a different Indy team. But yes, McGugin and Eubanks get my vote. Eubanks really had a quarterback situation to sort out.....and boy did he ever!

Jason Eubanks, Independence. Created an amazing turn around that created an amazing season.
