Do you guys think these students would be charged with these charges if a fight didn't happen in the parking lot? The kids who were in the fight got charged as they should of been. My question is why a month later there are charges against the other kids having to do with not leaving school property when asked and starting a riot? To me, if these kids were on the field acting out and trying to start a riot why weren't there anyone escorting them out? I'm not blaming anybody but if the situation was serious enough to charge 6-7 kids then why weren't there anybody to escort these kids?? Yes, the students were wrong for going to the game in the first place and should of known better. But charging these students a month later doesn't seem right to me...

My personal opinion is that these guys were going to get charged regardless. I don't understand why it took so long though, when I know for a FACT that the names of all those that went to the game, and were on the field, were given to Ridgeland administration and Walker COunty authorities by Wednesday of the following week. Why no one escorted them out really doesn't matter. I wish that would have happened but it didn't, so it's a moot point. The boys should have high-tailed it to their cars and came home PERIOD. As much as I'd like this to go away it just keeps festering. Let's deal with it and be done with it. I'm not saying "sweep it under the rug" as I know I'll get accused of, I'm saying, let the courts do their jobs, and furthermore let's hope that a lesson has been LEARNED from this whole fiasco. I still say boys will be boys, but to my own kids, I would say, know the company you keep, and learn to think for yourself. This whole ordeal has put Ooltewah in a bad light, and caused alot of undue stress to alot of people. Every choice you make has a consequence.

Let's support the team, and the community, and work harder to make our young people understand that you can overcome bad things and it can get better.

Jethro - The funny thing is... just recently some Ridgeland students came up to Ooltewah for some "payback" during their off week. There were rumors they had a gun. The cheerleaders had to be rushed away because they were apparently going to hurt them. And what happened? It was delt with immedietly and there was no problem. So really, it can be prevented. I'm not defending the players because it was wrong to go down there..

But at this point it is getting ridiculous. Only TWO of the students were charged with "Inciting TO riot." Not all of them. The rest (along with the two charged with "inciting to riot") were charged with "failure to leave school campus when asked" or something. What the heck are these charges? Are the police being forced to make up some last minute charges? What do they consider "inciting to riot"? There was no 'riot' but just trash talking. This happens all the time. These players should be punished for it - but not by the police. Failure to leave school campus when directed.... at this point the police must have felt pressured by whomever to charge these kids with Anything...especially being so late in the game. I don't know if it's just me but this charge is almost laughable. Asking to kick these players off the team is just too severe and the people asking it must have some personal issue with Ooltewah.

And I know atleast one of the students charged with "failure to leave a school campus when directed" isn't planning on turning himself in at this point - but it could change. They can't arrest him unless he goes back into Georgia.

If these charges aren't dropped (atleast the failure to leave campus charges), then I can't consider the police in north Georgia to be respectable or credible.

I wish there was a lawyer on this board. My uneducated opinion .... this is foolhardy .... Eventually he will travel to Georgia and when he gets pulled over for something (speeding for instance), I would think it could get nasty. I'd think it is possible he'd spend a night in the pokey.

This is dumb. You nor I know all of the details. These boys are innocent until proven guilty. Respectfully, I don't think they will be proven guilty ... it will get pushed under the rug. But, to think that this sheriff is not credible or not respectable is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I'm sure he's doing the best thing he can do. The courts are where cases are tried, not by the sheriff.

My opinion, the Ridgeland students should have been approached by security, asked to leave, and if they didn't, haul 'em off to jail (or charge them). Threatening anyone is a crime and no one should have to look over their shoulder.

You said it was dealt with immediately. Curious ... by who? My earlier comment was that it is not up to the principal, teachers, even coaches when someone shows up to stir up trouble. Leave it for security (unless immediate harm in which case a person has a moral obligation to stop it.) But just because there are allegations of a gun, doesn't mean that we need teachers, coaches, etc., to play hero. Again, let security, who are trained in these sorts of situations, sort it out.

BTW, if there was a gun, throw the thugs in jail. There is no excuse for that, no matter what your age, reasoning, etc. Much too dangerous on a campus.

It's not dumb. I'm closer to the facts that most people are. These charges are jokes - especially failure to leave the campus when directed. It was obvious they were pressured to charge them with atleast something since it was so late in the game. Why wait a over a month when you charge the two obvious people early on? I mean if you're going to put these kids in this misery atleast come up with a reasonable charge against them...

The charge is just plain a waste of the courts time. We have bigger things to deal with rather than have the judge give the boys a moral talk and let them go. This charge is severe as some teenager rolling someone's yard or some kiddy prank. These guys aren't criminals.

The gun was a rumor. And that's all it probably was - a false rumor.

Security - and a few assisstant principals dealt with it, unlike at Ridgeland.

Just curious...why were they there in the first place? Most football players on their open date would have wanted to see a team they were going to play.

They were there for a "dating" situation of all things. I guess the opposite sex causes all sorts of problems for eachother /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
