I wouldn't be pushing the panic button just yet!! The same thing happened to LA in 2005 on their way to the title. We had to come from behind late in the game to escape with a narrow win in round 1. This may have just been Catholic's wake-up call!!

Injury bug finally stung the Irish. In addition to the loss of Zak Tait, we started the game without 2 defensive standouts in Trussler and Giles (LB and DE). First play of the game Pfleger suffers concussion on the kickoff return. Early first quarter Vann (RB and leading scorer/rusher) suffers probable ACL tear. Robbins (leading DB with 6 ints) comes out in the first quater coughing up blood after a helmet to the chest and heads to the hospital. Faris has to play RB and ends up coming out with cramps several times.

 

Gibbs played well and was able to exploit these losses due to injury. Hopefully several will be back next week. Coaches were probably happy to have the names on the backs of the jerseys so they would know who was were there were so many different lineups.

i didnt see the game, but read that Catholic had some key injuries. If im not mistaken, i thouught that catholic lost there 1st and 2nd string HB. This could of played into y this one was so close. correct me if im wrong

that would have been a good statement if it werent for the fact that LA wasnt #1 in the state and werent picked to win the state...LA struggled because they were supposed to being that they were 5-5 in tha regular season

Just how did they struggle? New team to the toughest region in the state and lost 3 region games by 21 combined points. And then returned the favor to 2 of the 3 in the playoffs. Just feel fortunate they didn't return the favor to the third. I will agree we didn't have the pressure on us as Catholic has had.

on one of gibbs scoring drives they had four long pass plays. all four of those seemed to be over the safety that replaced robins. coincidence? gibbs played a tough game like a team with nothing to lose which is exactly what they were. definately gave catholic a scare but how many scares is it gonna take to wake catholic up? the complacent play calling had something to do with it too. i can understand running the ball to control the clock but why would you run with second string backs when your big play wide reciever is having a field day with the opposing secondary? get up by the slaughter rule however you have to run or pass then put in the second string so your starters dont get hurt. there is something to be said for finding a way to win no matter what though. catholic is still 11-0 and the man to beat. a win is a win is a win but improvement is neeeded
