Gville vs South Pittsburg

OLD PIRATE

Croz, you need to give it a rest. Your boys played good, but just got beat by a better team. All we heard about was how we would not run between the tackles on Gordonsville, but look what happened. We committed to stopping your quarterback from running all over us, which opened up the passing game for GV. But when it came down to play making, SP won the battle. And the kid that fumbled the pass would not have had 6, he would have been caught from behind. Anyway, I hate to see people be such poor sports after a loss....accusing our players of taunting and downing our program. One of GV's players taunted our sideline during warmups and then another threw a punch in the 4th quarter. I don't think any less of GVs program because of that, it was just emotion during the game. Anyway, this is the last post for me on this game. Good luck next season GV.

GO PIRATES!!!!!

Old Pirate says hey to another old pirate. Croz is upset as most would be but he just needs to put away those rose colored glasses and open his eyes. He was obviously watching our players and paying little attention to a couple of his tigers. Regardless he seems to be a real Gville supporter. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

OP says the player throwing the punches was reportedly the same player grabbing the crotch and taunting the SP fans "before" the kickoff.

Old Pirate says, GO PIRATES, continue to fullfill your dream. Get back to work Monday.

Things like this and SP's athletic ability is what kept Gville from winning, and the refs could've called several taunting penalties against SP but didn't. That's what disappointed me the most, because I thought more of the coaches and the people associated with the program until last night. I was surprised that they let it go on.

Either way, Good luck SP, but Go Hampton.

I held responding to this until after watching the replay of the game today. I couldn't remember any taunts, but wanted to make sure. After watching the replay, after all 5 of SP's TDs the back trotted to the official and handed them the ball. No celebration, no finger pointing. It's been pointed out here several times about the G'ville kid grabbing his crotch and shaking it at the SP fans as well as a G'ville kid doing the same at LV last week. But G'ville's 23 is caught on tape several times running his mouth after plays - specifically at Weatherspoon after a tackle and late in the game G'ville's 56 comes after SP's QB for a cheap shot on Robinson's last TD run. That resulted in off-setting unsportsmanlike penalties when the SP QB retaliated. Unless you have specific instances of a SP kid taunting someone, you should keep your mouth shut. It sounds like a lot of sour grapes for getting your rear-end handed to you.

Or it could be something a lot of longtime SP fans have felt is a biased against the team by white fans/refs who look for reasons to dislike a team with a lot of good players, many of whom happen to be African-American. Unless you have proof of taunting its either that you're so completely consumed with Tigers football that you can't stand losing, or you literally see things as black and white. If that's the case, that view doesn't belong in sports at any level, especially at the high school level.

Take your loss, stop whining and making up phantom taunting calls and start practicing basketball like the rest of Region 4.

I don't have a dog in this fight but making this a race thing is going too far. Also, I did see some jawing back and forth from both teams last night. SP's #24 was jawing with somebody on G-villes sideline after he almost picked of the quick slant. I don't know who said what 1st.

Deny it all you want to. Gville made some key misakes that helped to keep them from winning.

Two fumbles with no one around them, one on a play that would've possibly been six points.

Two int's in the endzone, one from the seven yard line. If we score on three of these 4 opportunities, we match the Pirates score, and it also changes momemtum. Yes Gville could've won, but we didn't take advantage of our opportunities.

As far as the officiating goes, I'm all for letting the boys play, but when a defender is grabbed from behind over the top of the shoulder pads near the play, it needs to be called.

G-ville made some mistakes...... Why throw it to the endzone twice on long plays? SP has too much closing speed. You are moving the ball, keeping the clock moving and decide to go deep?? Twice?? Underneath was where you were making hay. Kickoff fumble was big and G-ville did take advantage. Onside kick,,,got it gave it back. Two interceptions.....in the endzone shouldn't have been thrown. Officiating?? Always things missed that could have/should have been called. G-ville line was holding all nite, had too, was getting beat too much.

I do agree that SP is a very good team, but didn't look as good as I expected....although G-ville may have had something to do with that.

G-ville had oppertunities, but whether they shot themselves in the foot or SP made the plays....you could make an arguement for both.

I guess this thread has reached it's end. Both sides had some taunts that should not have happened...Let's just chalk it up to teenagers and emotions and move on. G'ville is a program I (and everybody else at SP) respect a lot. Our towns, schools, programs, kids and coaches have a lot more in common than most places we play. So good luck next year and may we meet again.

Old Pirate gives a BIG THUMBS UP TO THIS STATEMENT. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

OP says the quick slant was almost taken to the house by #21 Weatherspoon

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
