Bolivar at David Lipscomb

Recommended Posts

I have to give a major advantage to David Lipscomb in this one based on playoff experience. In particular, this game will be played the week of Thanksgiving. David Lipscomb has done this many times before. I am sure they have a set Thanksgiving week practice routine...how to handle time off from school, what time to practice on Thursday, how to remain focused, etc...

Having said that, I think Bolivar will be more competition than they have seen this year with the exception possibly of Goodpasture. Bolivar has a tough, physcial football team. Their O-line is big and experienced and their fullback goes 250lbs while the tailback is 230lbs. They will run the ball downhill. Defensively they are not sound, but have great athletes that will play with a ton of effort.

David Lipscomb has an offensive machine. They put pressure on most teams by making them feel like they have to score a lot of points. Jeremy Holt is explosive. Rogers is a threat on the outside and on returns. Simpson does a good job at quarterback. David Lipscomb's defense is very good. The are very fast up front and get bunches of people to the ball. However, I think their weakness is exploited when teams run the ball right at them and that is Bolivar's strength.

I think Bolivar's offense will be able to run the ball on DL. If they don't turn the ball over and don't give up quick touchdowns, the Tigers have a chance. I don't think Bolivar is disciplined enough to stop DL wing-t offense. DL will put up at least 21pts even if Bolivar makes them take a lot of snaps. Bolivar's goal should be to run the ball and run the clock.

A couple of questions, before I pick the winner:

1.) What is the status of Davis for David Lipscomb? I like Rogers getting to touch the ball at running back, but he is an automatic touchdown when lined up out wide.

2.) Has Bolivar played any wing-t teams this year? There is no way to prepare for DL execution in one week!

Bolivar played against Dyersburg earlier in the year and they ran the Vear, almost to perfection. Dyersburg roughed them up pretty good. But it was early in the year.

JSS is a game that will help Bolivar in preparing for DL. The Tigers lost that game 20-10 in week eight. That was the Thursday-Friday game that thunderstorms forced to make a two night contest.

DAVID LIPSCOMB IS A TON BETTER THAN JACKSON SOUTH SIDE!!!!!

I am picking the Mustangs to roll in this one. They are the best team in Class 3A. I have said this all year long and will continue to say it until they claim the Blue Cross Bowl in just a few short weeks. Coach Mac & Co. have an amazing backfield this year and the young players have stepped up and performed great. Holt & Moneypenny must continue to run the football hard. IF THEY HOLD ON TO THE PIG SKIN THEN THEY'LL BE IN NO DANGER!!!! This is what kept Marshall Co. in the game for much of the third quarter and into the fourth quarter. Coach Mac will correct that issue this week in practice I am sure.

David Lipscomb: 35

Bolivar: 7

The Mustangs will find a way to slow the Tigers ground game and when that happens the turnovers start to happen as well. DL will score their normal 5 TDs by running Holt on the sweep, Moneypenny on the trap, Rogers on the rocket, & by throwing the football a few successful times with Simpson to the trio of Davis, Rogers, & Lehning.

Congrats to Bolivar Central on a great season as well as on a great run here in these playoffs /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

BC you may not be giving DL enough credit in this one, altho I know Coach Mac doesnt roll up big scores on anyone. Yes the Tigers seem to have improved in the playoffs but those teams werent DL !!

Here at Dyersburg, we ran the Midline against Bolivar (and everyone else). Key feature was the option. Lipscomb's Wing T is completely different. Lipscomb by as much as they want it to be.

I have said time and time again that David Lipscomb's Mustangs will win the Class 3A State Title this year and they'll also be the projected favorites to win it again heading into next year. Coach Mac & Co. are great and I hope they win it all to represent our region well. At DL they have coaches, players, & fans that are all class acts.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
