These are some very intriguing numbers becuase the way TSSAA is SUPPOSED to decide classification is by taking the total number of schools dividing that total into five groups based on enrollment under their system there should be no overlap no team in 2A should be larger than a team in 3A it is not a very complex but these numbers show how inept this organization is. I understand that some schools grow and other have students leave but in 2a Gibson county is larger than 11 3A school. Even worse in 3A trezavant is larger than 25 4A team how does this happen. It has to go on on purpose becuse you could get a group of 5th graders to divide the schools up evenly. I would also like to express my condolances to all 4A schools because even if Maryvile was the largest school in the state they have an administrator on the TSSAA board that decides classification and he will make sure they stay in 4A.

Some school chose to play up a classification. They do this after the classes have been set. That is why some classes have more schools 1A has 59, 2A has 58, 3A has 55, 4A has 61 and 5A has 63.

Johnson County is a perfect example of this. They chose to play 4A when in fact they could be in 3A. The reason being is that there are no 3A schools close enough and travel would be awful. Also, Johnson Co. has to include in their number a school that is for delinquents, and they don't have the option of playing football. So when the truth be told, they are really a 2A school. Now that is interesting.

Elizabethton plays up a classification too.. but another point is enrollment changes.. (for example, when this was set Hampton was a bit under 400).

Hey genius. You need to take in consideration the schools that choose to move up. Enrollments change at a lot of schools daily. The classifications were for 4 years the last time set. (unless enrollment changed by 20% after 2) GP yesterday, Maryville today!!!!! You actually think Maryville can't compete in 5a? Like how you accuse teams of being racist, cheaters, or both. I challenge all posters to their thoughts about Genius' claim that Maryville has to resort to cheating to be successful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way Genius, you have definitely slandered someone now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maryville could compete and do very well in any classification in any state. No questions asked!!

You are 100% correct Maryville is by far the best team in the state but what I said is still correct they have an administror on the board who decides classification. I do not know why they don't want to play in 5A but that is the scenario. As for teams moving up, the number moving up still does account for the discrepency in team overlap. In addition since TSSAA require teams moving up to apply to move up why don't they reassemble the classifications after they know who is moving up how long would that take and hour.

I don't think Maryville is the best team in the state this year.
