charger81
HANDS DOWN.................................CAK is the #2 2A team in the state. If Gatlinburg-Pittman had a defense to match it's offense, I'd say they would be close to CAK. I'd put Gatlinburg-Pittman and Loudon tied for 3rd. Goodpasture 5th. Not making excuses for Gatlinburg Pittman's D but don't forget they were missing 3 starters on D. Would this have changed the outcome, probably not because they were weaker at times during the year on D than on O. However, it would have been nice to have had them (2 of 3 were leading tackler and second leading). I know it's easy to over look our region but GP was very fortunate to beat Cumberland Gap twice. Give CG a little credit because it could have easily been CG playing Alcoa instead of GP. Just out of curiosity did any time after GP try to take a page from their offensive scheme? k12koop
CAK and Maryville were the only 2 teams I would go to see again.... CAK just had a very good team that was out coached and slightly out talented. The others, Good pasture & DCA specifically, just were not in the same league as CAK. charger81
I would like to see CAK play all those teams and come out with all victories. It is impossible to tell how good a team would match up with another team just by looking at a common opponent. Look at region 5. CPA put DCA away by 16, DCA beat GP 35-28, and GP beat CPA twice. We would have to see an actual matchup between CAK and one of these teams to really know who would prevail. You're exactly right. You never know until you play the games. Sometimes one which match better than another. You can't just judge by common opponents.
Tornado74
I think the big question is whats the TSSAA gonna come up with to keep Alcoa out of the State Championship game next year?? I mean they are running out of options unless they drop Maryville down to 2A /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I don't think having those starters would've made the difference, especially if Brodus had played for us. It's amazing to me what a big part he played in the games, but what little recognition he's getting. Start the campaign now: Brodus for Kicker of the Year '08!!! Govolsknox
I guess it's no secret I'm a CAK fan. I think if there were no Alcoa in the east, I think CAK would have had a very good chance to get to the championship game. No question, they would have had to play well to beat Cumberland Gap or Gatlinburg P. and others but I believe we had a team that could do that this year. Looking back on the second half of the first CAK vs. Alcoa game(21 points), as well as the second quarter of the playoff game(21 points), CAK was able to do some things that no one else was able to do against Alcoa (except Maryville.) CAK was able to pass, which opened up the run for Kolinsky, and both were effective (compared with how others faired). But on defense, we just didn't have the horses to stop Alcoa. We could get a couple of really good stops, but could not stop them on 3 downs together and force the punt. Alcoa is so much better than every other 2A team I've seen that it really just isn't close. I'm glad this thread was started because I was curious how Alcoa players and fans saw the level of competition. Since CAK didn't play these other teams we'll never know for sure, but I think Alcoa's players and fans have a pretty well informed opinion how the teams they played stack up. In a perfect system (which doesn't exist) I think it would have been ideal for CAK to meet Alcoa at the semis or the finals because that's where I think CAK stacked up this year.
