who cares farragut has the best staff in the state no question when it comes down to state tourney time i would take the farragut staff over any "ace" in the state

The topic is the best pitcher in the state...nobody said anything about a STAFF there are plenty of excellent STAFFS around but pitchers like sonny and gant are by far a couple of the best pitchers in the state. In a game if you have to use your entire staff to be good then that's not too great. These guys can beat any pitcher they like one on one....and probably go ahead and take on that staff and beat them too.

can't believe no one has mentioned Will Locante from Briarcrest. He pitched two no hitters this season and has an unbeaten record. He also is signed with UT-Knoxville. He doesn't throw 96,but he has great command, great curve and not many players can hit him.

i agree will is a great pitcher. i have seen him play...he will do great and good luck to him

I see a great deal of discussion on speed but who has the best change up? I have talked to people that have pitched at the major league level and to coaches at the college level who say the change up is a pitch that is not developed enough at young ages. The belief seems to be that the curve ball is overused and the change up is not used enough. Thoughts?

Great point here. The thing about today's pitchers is that velocity is becoming a dime a dozen. Pitchers that can only throw hard and harder get hit around the park pretty good now. hitters eyes have become accustomed to velocity and they make adjustments well. the one pitch that nearly all high school and college hitters struggle with is the change up. in my opinion it is the best pitch that a pitcher can through. unfortunately like you say, most kids don't work to develop this pitch. it's all about the breaking ball.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
