1) Elizabethton

1) Unicoi County

1) Cloudland

4) Unaka

5) Hampton

6) Happy Valley

7) Johnson County

Had the Lady Cyclones closed the deal with just one made free-throw in that awful, final half-minute at South Greene they'd be this week's easy number one. Likewise, for the Lady Blue Devils, who, with a one-and-one conversion, and/or one of those two last-hope shots at Elizabethton.

It's noteworthy that Elizabethton has the "most-recent" win against Unicoi County, a 23-point turnaround. Likewise, the Lady Rangers, defeated Hampton last Friday; however, only seven days previous, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Rangers.

The Lady Highlanders lost to the very good Lady Vikings of Avery County, North Carolina, but move back up based on their win by eleven in Baileyton. And Cloudland still has our area's most-impressive overall record, having lost only to the Lady Greene Devils, who won at Elizabethton just days earlier; to the very good Lady Vikings of Avery County; to Morristown West, in the Thanksgiving Classic; and at Unaka.

This week will decide the regular season conference champions.

1. Cloudland- big game tomorrow night against the Creekers will decide if the Lady Highlanders are the conference champions. Unfortunately, I won't get back in time for this one. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

1. Elizabethton-tough conference to win them all, but they've proven they are among the elite.

3. Unicoi Co.-tough loss to Betsy couple with a struggling performance against Johnson Co.

4. Unaka-they are better than Hampton and a sweep of Cloudland would put them in the elite.

5. Hampton- I would've liked to have seen them beat the Creekers, but its hard to win at Snavely.

6. Happy Valley- in my opinion, they are the hardest team to figure out in the seven.

7. Johnson Co. - way too much inconsistency.

Must agree more with Krich than a90 this week. Elizabethton moves to the number one (guess coachh is liking that) with their win over Unicoi. Unicoi and Cloudland remain a close second with really now the other four teams (Unaka, Hampton, Happy Valley and Johnson County) remain close for the remaining spots. Would probably rank HV over Hampton. Johnson County is not that distant of a seventh place team now.

1. Elizabethton

2. Unicoi

2. Cloudland

4. Unaka

5. Happy Valley

6. Hampton

7. Johnson County

Elizabethton did manage a close win over the Bulldogs tonight and HV advenged a earlier loss by beating West Greene by about 20 or more. So with Unicoi's close win over the Longhorns on Friday just proves the distance from 1st to 7th in our little poll remains a lot closer than it ever has. Probably the better teams aren't as good as they used to be and the lesser teams have shown great improvement.

1. Elizabethton - (Despite struggle tonight with Hampton)

2. Unicoi Co. - (Tough loss to the Cyclones, not done by a longshot)

3. Cloudland - (Still seem vulnerable)

4. Unaka- (How many more times will they play Coudland?)

5. Hampton- (Improving, a dangerous draw)

6. Happy Valley- (Disappointing season, still have the tournaments)

7. Johnson County- (A few good games give hope for the future)

This is getting crazy. Elizabethton had a AA title in their grasp and let it go. I don't know who will win the regular season conference title in A or AA. 1 through 6 have a lot of parity. I have about decided there are no dominant teams in this group and that nearly all of them can beat the others on a good night. The tournaments should be exciting and hopefully it will all work itself out.

Hampton and Elizabethton tied at six at the end of quarter one.

Lady Bulldogs win second quarter 16-8 to lead 22-14 at the half.

Elizabethton dominates third quarter 18-3 to lead 32-25.

Hampton outscores Elizabethton 14-10 in the fourth - - -

Final: Elizabethton 42 Hampton 39.

Great game at Elizabethton.

The Lady Cyclones press managed a few turnovers; three quick baskets by Mariah Pietrowski and a three at 2:54 by Chelsea Bowling pulled Elizabethton to within one - 22-23. Kelli Culler hit a three at 1:28 to give Elizabethton the lead for good. Hannah Fritz and Mary Beth Ingram each made one-of-two free-throws before Fritz hit a three at :42 to put Elizabethton up by five - 30-25.

Kelli culler hit a layup; Mikki Oliver made two free-throws; Mariah Pietrowski hit a banker and Elizabethton has a nine-point lead at 5:58. Josie McKinney hit the front-end at 5:42, then a layup by Sarah Calhoun on a magnificent pass by Oliver - - 36-31.

Fritz hit for two at 2:54, followed by a three by Sarah Calhoun at 2:46 - - EHS 38 HHS 34. Pietrowski made two free-throws at 1:40 - - 40-34. Calhoun answered with two points - - 40-36.

At the eleven-second mark, Oliver was fouled attempting a three. She made two-of-three free-throws - - 40-38. A quick foul (:10); front-end missed. Oliver is quickly fouled at the seven-second point - - misses first, hits second - - 40-39.

Quick foul. Jasmine Treadway hits two free-throws at :05 42-39.

Hampton - in-and-out from left corner at buzzer.

*Unfortunately, and for various reasons, this week's poll was released on Monday, a day later than normal . . . . which makes it fair for anyone so interested to submit his/her own ratings at any time thereafter. However, the Hampton at Elizabethton game is not to be considered with Last Week's ratings, but rather, Elizabethton, rated at number one - - BEFORE the Hampton Game - - will certainly be judged, for better or for worse, when considering NEXT WEEK's ratings. In other words, it will be in the Lady Cyclones' best interest for the Lady Bulldogs to show up big time at home against the Lady Highlanders this Friday. Otherwise, the oft-used "what have you done for me lately," argument is null and void.

Either way, it's time to pay homage to those ferocious Lady Bulldogs of Hampton High School: They split with North Greene and Unaka; and literally had to play badly to lose to the top-rated Lady Cyclones of Elizabethton.

HUGE HUGE HIGE HUGE game for Lady Devils tonight as the host South Greene. A Win over South Greene would tie up the conference again with All of the top three(South Greene, Elizabethton, Unicoi) having two losses. No matter what the turn out should be of this game the seeding should be South Greene-1 Unicoi-2 Elizabethton-3 due do to the tie-breaker they drew at the start of the season. Unicoi still has one more conference game after tonight, Sullivan North at home Friday. This is also their Senior Night.

GOOD LUCK LADIES.

I think its just too hard for me to rank these teams. Elizabethton seemed like the favorite, but if Hampton just even shows up in the third quarter last night, they win. So if i had to rank them, I guess it would look something like this:

1. Unicoi

T2. Elizabethton

T2. Cloudland

T2. Unaka

5. Happy Valley

6. Hampton

7. Johnson County

Tied at six after one.

Unaka up by two at the half - 20-18.

Cloudland outscores Unaka 12-9 in third to lead 30-27.

In the fourth Cloudland scores 14, Unaka's twelve - - -

Final: Cloudland 44 Unaka 39

The best-played game, by both teams, of this season. Not error-free by any stretch of the imagination, but two familiar, very-well-coached teams played a remarkably good, fundamental game.

The fourth quarter: Brittany Scott hit two free-throws at 6:47 - - Cloudland up 30 - 29. Rebecca Tolley hit a two-pointer at 6:15 to extend the lead back to 3 - 32-29. At 5:58 Brittany Scott hit a three to tie things up at 32. After more than three scoreless minutes Scott added two to put Unaka up No further scoring until 2:51 when Scott added two. Thirty-seconds later, Brooke Hughes hit a long shot that was ruled a three (Coach Chambers thought the shot was inside the line, but at any rate - Cloudland 35 - Unaka 34).

At 2:04 Kala Winters converted a two-plus-one to put Unaka back up 37-35. At 1:47 Brooke Johnson hit a three - Cloudland up 38-37. Winters answered with two at 1:17 - - Unaka back on top 39-38. At :45 Sydnie Buchanan scored to give the lead back to Cloudland 40-39.

At the thirty-second mark, Unaka, trailing by 39-40, missed the a front-end. Cloudland rebounded. Unaka had to give a couple fouls to put the Lady Highlanders on the line. At :14, Brooke Hughes converted the one-and-one - - Cloudland 42 Unaka 39.

The Lady Rangers got the ball to side front-court, called time out, set a couple screens, got a decent look, but missed. Unaka fouled again, and at :05, Brooke Johnson went two-for-two to close the deal at Cloudland 44 - Unaka 39. Two five-point games between these two. Will they play again?

South Greene clinches a tie for the Watauga conference title last night with a 49-44 win at Unicoi. They win it outright with a win at home friday against Johnson County. No matter what happens friday, SG is the top seed, which sets up a Unicoi-EHS rematch in the District semi's at Boone probably a week from monday.

Krich Unaka and Cloudland will play two more times with the last one being the one that people will remember!
