Reinstatement of spring practice

I thought that the month of July was for conditioning only.....no open facilities.....kids have to go somewhere else to shoot.

I spoke with Gene Menees(TSSAA) today about July, and he said it is for conditioning and lifiting only. No basketballs can be used during July. I was told that this had changed while I was at the state tourney, but the information I got was incorrect...

I was not able to find anything about this addition to the rule on the TSSAA web site. When/how was this info announced?

The Legislative Council, at it's March 13, 2008 meeting, voted to add five days of off-season practice in basketball, effective immediately. The five days have to take place following the 21-day dead period in basketball and before the conclusion of the school year. The five days must also be within a 10-day school period and there may be no competition with other schools. As with all practice rules, only the students in your school building can be involved.

This allows for teams to be prepared for summer team camps.

It was listed in the Legislative Council notes from their meetings.

I would like to see Coacht open the basketball boards in late April and May to discuss Spring Basketball like we can with Spring Football.

Basketball can still have no interschool competition so we would just be discussing practices....

Nope they have said you can have open gym but no coach can be there. It is weird and a few coaches have talked about it around here and we don't really care as long as our kids can be in the gym.

Another Stupid Rule from the TSSAA. Who will open the gym if the coach is not allowed to? If someone gets hurt while the facility is open, then who is responsible? Will it be the coach that is not even there? The TSSAA stinks!
