2 Man Systems?

I for one, vote for the game to be played, anywhere by anyone. Cheamilion makes a point about $40.00. Think about that, 7 or so home matches x $40.00 in a school forced to make tough financial decisions every day?

Maybe they pick up wrestling or something and dump soccer over $280.00...

I was in Johnson City over the weekend at the McDonalds tournament with my team (U12B); and an Englishman made a point I hear a lot, (mostly away from High schools) that "Americans" (that's us) have turned Soccer into a game of the privileged. Some look down their noses at the backwater high schools with cowpasture fields, unskilled coaches and 2-3 reasonably tallented players... and 2 refs.

I applaud those enclaves of well played HS soccer, (going out on a limb here) but it's enjoyable to referee the Grace, McMinn County or Cleveland matches. I don't work them but I attend occasionally, Bearden or CAK; and it's great high school soccer.

But they don't work harder or do more with less than Tellico, Rhea Co, Harriman or Sweetwater. In Tellico, there is one man that practically single handed keeps the game alive....

Sorry about the rant, don't know how I got off on that...., ok, 2 man crews works well if the 2 are in sync- 3 is better.

they just started us on a 2 man system down here, and being an older fella its really hard for me to officiate 22 players with only one other ref assisting me, it takes missing about 10 % of fouls to missing about 40%- 50% of fouls, now you kids are the ones affected and i hate it but you must understand the difficulty with a 2 man system

No one has to accept a dual. The rules as they stand right now, allow a Center to be demanded by either coach. The other ref goes to one line and stays there acting as an AR, and a club person is picked to be the other linesman (not an AR). This is far preferable to a dual, but it appears that either no one in TN reads the rules, or no one is willing to step up and start protecting the players.

It only cost $20 more for a three man and you do have to request it. Sometimes, due to everyone else wanting to play at the same time, you won't get 3 even if requested. It would be funny, or sad, if TSSAA tried to mandate a 3-man for all games. The bodies just aren't there.

Times are tough..Will officiate for gas. It would not be sad if this mandate was initatiated. Just need about

16 months to set the standard. Recruit/train officials. Officiating needs to be a conerstone of TSSAA goals. Its not

that hard

Actually the dual system in an acceptable system to referee. just like the three-man and the double dual system. You sir are thinking of USSF systems, however, NISOA is the parent organization for officials in NFHS and the dual is taught to an extent to use.

Although 3 man systems are more expensive, they are much preferred. That's what we usually do, but when he went to Hixson, they paid for a 2 man and it was some of the worst officiating we have had all year.

With that in mind, 2 man can work if both the refs are solid..

NO! It is $40 more per game. Players just need to ask the coach of there team if they asked for 3 refs. In middle TN the coaches are the ones that don't want to pay for the 3 refs ($60 center and $50 each for ARs). We have more refs than you think. Up unit till last year MTSOA was sending 4 refs thats right 4 refs to some schools. 2 did the JV game and 2 for the varsity. It is all about money.

Are 3-man crews more expensive?

Schools in this county usually get duals because the refs are coming from Knoxville, at least an hour drive. Most don't want to make that drive, especially with gas prices the way they are.

I'd suggest requesting trios for district games to start, see if you can get them.

Two man crews $120 I think, Three man crews $160.

Let an old coach chime in. There are benefits to both systems. In a dual, at least there are two whistles; two people calling fouls. And yes it is a little cheaper on the budget.

Yes a three man system is better in that you have more eyes on the match. HOWEVER, we all know that some/most centers don't allow the linesmen/assts call anything but offsides/throwins. So what use are they, plus it is more expensive.

Having said all this. Our district bylaws require 3 men crews for the postseason.

Maybe in your district Referees only allow thier Assistant Referees to only call offsideds, but the Highland Rim Association, who generally do from Franklin County to Smyrna, to Cookeville (most of SE Middle TN) want thier assistant referees to make foul calls and are encourage to do so. In fact, in our last referee meeting, were told if a center referee tells you you can't make those calls then don't referee the game, because behind assistant, is referee.

Most Highland Rim Assocation require three man system, so they set how many referees must be used, unless it's a JV game, then they will use two. But for most games they use a three man system. Some referee assocations just don't have enough referees to do a three man system.

    • I think you’re referring to Corbin. That year Corbin went 14-2, losing the state championship to Boyle County. I believe Boyle County has been nationally ranked a few times so obviously they’re no trashy team. Corbin doesn’t sound like a bad football team to me, especially being how Boyle County is 12 time state champions and usually barely knocks Corbin out. That year tho I think Boyle beat them by a few but still a state appearance. I also think that Alcoa game went to OT but I’m not quite for sure. Alcoa is a legit program, just take a couple years ago for example, the 32nd best ranked team in New York came down to Alcoa (not quite sure what they were thinking) and got absolutely pummeled 44-6. Alcoa has beat good teams, they’re not playing nobodies.
    • You haven seen much football if the Blackman vs Bowling Green game u speak of is the worst officiated game you have ever seen.  Everyone on here swears Blackman was cheated, but i just can not agree.  Rewatched it on youtube, and there are a couple Blackman fans near the camera that out to be ashamed of the crap that came out of there mouths.  I dont know much about Blackman, but i didnt get a very good impression of them having much class by there entrance to the field, and instead of running on to there sideline running to the other teams sideline to cut them off when they went to run to there sideline.  Then before much is even happened in the game fans near the camera swearing they are being cheated.  Seemed like a fairly good called game till Blackman started losing there composure.  Embarassing hearing the blacmn fans making fun of someone on the other team possibly getting hurt, and calling players on the other team a dumbass.  The reason they lost thatgame was because they gave that necarious fant kid a 5 yard cushion over, and over, and over, and everytime he would catch it and get another 7 after the catch.  3rd or 4th and 1 lets give the best player on the other team a 5 yard cusion, and let him catch it when we need a stop even though he has gotten 12 yards on that play repeatedly.  Then the last touchdown on 4th down was a completly different play, but great throw, and great route and catch by fant for the last td they did not defend it very well, and it would have been a blackman win if they make that 4th, and long stop, but they didnt cover the best player on the field very well, and he caught it with the closest player 3 yards away from him.  Just give Bowling Green credit for making the plays to win.  We look stupid constantly saying they got cheated.  They straight up got beat, but no shame, bowling Green had a heck of a team.  People just dont want to give any credit to the other team when they are beat especially when its out of state.  Ive talked alot of crap to fans of kentucky teams, but we get ridicilous too often on here.  I remember the Union City fans saying how they would run it down the other teams throat playing a kentucky team.  They claimed we will run it up the middle all night, and those early 3 yard gains will turn into 12 yard gains by the 4th quarter cause thats how we always wear other teams down, and always win.  They proceded to get there #### whooped 2 years in a row then dropped that team from there schedule, and i have to give those kentucky fans credit they called it before the first year they played.  They said we will beat Union City these 2 years, and they will not renew because Union City has done this in the past before.  Went to one of those games, and the other team ran defensive lineman in every few plays, and by the 4th quarter it was union city that was wore out, and there rushing game failed late.  Instead of giving the other team credit for stopping there run game late they cried that we was gassed after bragging that we always gas the other team out by the 4th they couldnt handle that another team smartly threw fresh bodies in most of the night, and kept there starters much fresher for late in the game.  They basically put backups in on half the plays, and settled with giving up alot of yards to keep the 1s fresh for the 4th.  Instead of giving them credit the excuses came well we where gassed if we would have played later in the season we would have won its hot, and early in the year, so thats why we lost its all just excuses.  It aint like there is a rule that says UC couldnt rotate some in on there oline, and rotate a couple running backs so there starters would b fresh for the end.  They got beat because the other team smartly used depth, plus they couldnt stop the other teams offense.  We cant give credit to the other team when we lose we must find an excuse mentality espececially if its an out of state team there is no way anyone from another state in paticular kentucky can be as good or better than us.  After just watching that Blackman game they just straight up got beat.
    • What’s sad Barney is the cards in the deck are stacked against them.  With the success the MAVS are having just down I-75, any talented players are heading that way. I always said what the Price twins did there was second to none, making the playoffs and winning a playoff game is the ceiling there. On a great year, maybe a q-final appearance but that is a big stretch.  Finding a coach there is very tough. I feel for the new coach, he’s in a very bad situation and I’m not sure he even realizes it. I understand he wants to be positive and have hope, but I don’t see them scratching a win. Maybe he will prove me wrong.
    • I agree, 2A is the only class in thet state where the west side of the bracket is tougher, not taking anything away from Marion county at all but they should run that side for years to come
