I don't know about Ensworth, as I didn't keep up with them that closely, but I do know that a number of the MUS games have been very lop-sided, and Brunetti doesn't play the whole game in that circumstance. In fact, Brunetti's backup, Johnny Carson, is a more efficient passer than Jefferson. There have also been a couple of games where the #3 QB has had more snaps than either Brunetti or Carson. MUS has a number of offensive weapons, and a very formidable line, and Brunetti is very skilled at playing to his teammates' strengths. I think that's the mark of a Mr. Football.

Hard to compare the backup to the other two with a whopping 40 passing attempts in what I have to assume is mop up duty. Although neither Brunetti nor Jefferson have attempted what I think most consider a normal amount of passes for a QB. I belive both have right around 100 attempts for the year. Both are primarily running Qbs which is again why I think the statistics support Jefferson. He has outperformed Brunetti in almost every category. He has rushed for more yards, thrown for more yards, is a more efficient passer, better TD to interception ratio, more total offense, etc. He's done this playing QB which is not his natural position. He's also been splitting carries Darkwa who has the 2nd highest rushing total in the league.

I'm open for debate but show me some concrete reasons why Brunetti would be favored over Jefferson (or Wise for that matter) that don't relate to him being a greater college propsect than the other two.

I'm not going to start trying to argue numbers/percentages/averages because #1 I hate math and #2 the only figures I've got to go on are what's on the super prep website which is not updated as to the most recent games. Plus, I know of one very glaring error on that site, so who's to say there aren't more? I haven't seen Jefferson play at all, so I really can't compare him to Brunetti head-to-head. I'm going purely on gut feeling, so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

What is the glaring error?

I am sure the site is committed to fixing any errors, although one would think that the information on the site is only as good as what is submitted by the member schools.

For what it's worth, do you know who the "owner" of the site is? If not, I'll give you a hint: it's a Memphis-based school.

Super Prep doesn't have the stats from the BA game. Jefferson had 164 yards in that game. He finished with 1300+. While Jefferson's throwing mechanics are not pretty, he threw for 12 TD and no INT. He rushed for 140 of those 164 yards on a badly sprained ankle, which is now keeping him out of basketball. What stats cannot measure is heart is guts. You can see it in film. You can see it in every down effort. While Brunetti is a solid QB, he is not a Jefferson. Jefferson plays with more guts than any other player I've seen in the state of Tennessee. It's not about who the better athlete is. It's about when it comes down to the nitty gritty, who would you rather have on your team? I pick Jefferson. It's not even close, really, it's not even a hard decision. I'm not saying Brunetti doesn't have heart or guts, I'm saying Jefferson simply has more - when in pain - than anybody I've seen. It's a want to thing - and Jefferson wants it. If I was a collegiate recruiter, he'd be a high priority for me - not because of physical attributes (while he does have plenty of those) - but because of his inside, the intangibles, those things you can't teach or coach. Players either have it or they don't. Jefferson has it.

More key to his teams succes? You must be kidding. Jefferson is the team. Orleans holes are opened up because of him. Im taking nothing away from Darkwa but he is so good beacause of Jefferson. BA might have one of the best defenses in the nation and Jefferson took over the game and almost beat them by himself. It was amazing. BA knew every play he would run and still couldn't stop him. Brunetti has talent all over the field while Jefferson has Darkwa. It will not be right if Jefferson does not win.

BA has one of the best defenses in the nation? 4 losses? Why would you subject yourself to this? Are you serious? Who are you? Do you know anything about sports? I'm sorry you are probably an intelligent human being but don't subject people to statements with zero validity! Best defense in the nation? You just posted this on 11/16/08! Wow! Give the individual award to Jefferson! Brunetti wants the Gold Ball!

I mean't to write state. And in ba's losses it wasn't there defenses fault, it was their stuggling offense. Even in the Prattville game ba's D stood their ground. Even though i do not think Prattiville is as good as the hype, they are still a "national powerhouse".

Just got a little excited when you mentioned them as the best "D" in the nation.

The glaring error is the omission of MUS' Walt Wepfer from the punter's list. Walt has been the #1 punter in DII-AA since the first game, now his name is not on there anywhere. He had three punts in the MBA game, all of which were good punts given the weather conditions. That's what led me to think that the omission was a mistake. And no, I don't know which Memphis-based school owns the site...care to enlighten me? If it's MUS, I'm sure they'll fix that mistake right away.

Yes, it is MUS.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
