Can someone help me out as to why there is such a thing as week 0 games?? What is there purpose? :confused:

Week 0 games allow teams to have a bye week. Having a game during week 0 can be good because it gives you an off week later in the season to heal up. The only negative is that you have one less week to prepare.

the only reason i can think of is more flexibility for scheduling if someone is in need of a game or a team would like to have an open date sometime during the season. it makes even more of a shambles for the jamborees though. like in the blount county jamboree tonight. alcoa, sevier co. and seymour all have week zero games tommorrow night. so there starters likely will not take a snap tonight. of course jamborees usually don't result in much anyway except for getting the kids ready for the friday night routine and revenue for the host schools.

I'd be going to LA at Cumberland Co tonight or Sevier Co at Seymour tomorrow had I not had unforeseen problems. I wouldn't be watching Harriman play a quarter against Campbell Co. and Midway and Rockwood play Union Co.

 

Kingston won't play in jamborees, and for that, we're taking a lot of heat. Oh, well.

 

Kingston doesn't like bye weeks; just coach King's personal preference I think. I think that he thinks the team gets out of sync when they don't play. I think most of the #1 seeds in 1993 that had first-round byes hated them.

 

I think scheduling is more the reason for week 0 games than bye weeks mid-season, as some schools have their bye weeks as early as week 1 and as late as week 10.
