Old Pirate is not all that knowledgeble about the BB program but SP would be very good if they had not lost some kids to transfer in middle school. This years team mostly juniors and should continue to improve as the year continues.

We making excuses now OP?? Play with what you have, isn't that what some say?? They could still be very good. MC lost some pretty good running backs also that are 1 and 2 all time in the city.......think their names are Peardon and White??? Everyone loses players via transfer or things like that.

NO EXCUSES HERE.....................................Old Pirate just simply stated a fact. The kids would have been able to be special and perhaps compete for a championship had they stayed together. Jasper will fall as will SP to the privates that annually have something of a select teams. OP says opportunities like these kids had rarely come around and dividing them up greatly limited their potential. SP's BB team will be ok but would have been really something to deal with if not for the kids that transferred. Joe The Man Muir would beef that team even more if he had continued to play. TTP, Old Pirate says you Jasper folks need to be very grateful for the help. Grimes refused to play BB while Peardon was there due to all the bad blood. Heck, all know what happened there but them there Buc fans won't ever man up and confess. OP is not aware of White? OP heard Coach Ladd stated he was sick about the Grundy kid not being on the mountain now that he has returned. Point is this, having arguably 3 of the best players from other programs is RARE, so enjoy the success while it lasts.

Water cooler talk is that Grace recently recieved transfers from at least 3 Chatt programs surrounding Chatt. Those privates are tuff to deal with in round ball.

Grace had six new football players transfer into their school. The receiver that had been at Chattanooga Central is the only one I know of specifically and he plays basketball. Did you mean players just arrived or at the start of the school year.

Old Pirate heard of the specifics but unsure as to all. Rumor was 1 from Central, 1 from Hixon and 1 or 2 from other programs? Understand OP is limited here but will attempt to gather additional info. Point of OP's post is us pblic schools have a tuff time competeing with the privates and the Chatt privates have a much better avenue to get the best atheletes from public schools. Chatt public school system has had trouble for years. Baseball at privates is strong also with summer league baseball around Chatt and kids being contacted about going to the local privates. Chatt as a whole is kinda like going to the unknown blackberry patch and hand picking the biggest and best.

Question Indian, can you remember 3 transfers coming to SC that collectively can play? Those Jasper folks should consider themselves lucky.

As OP stated in an earlier post a small community sometimes are afforded a great bunch of kids as the case prior to all the transfers that scattered the group. Most all new the group would be a serious contenders while they were in elementary in all sports. OP says last years seniors, this years seniors and next years seniors would have been the best group collectively ever the walk the halls of SP.

You can blame Henegar leaving on 1 pearson and thats all im gonna say about it and i know for a fact that Cody would have loved to play on the same team as terrell and juwan (sorry if misspelled)

Most of the kids on the basketball roster have been at Grace since Elementary school. There are a few since middle school, and then 3 that have only been there for just high school. Out of those three only one of them this is his first year at Grace. One of those two came from a small christian school and the other from Temple and he is only playing jv. The other as stated correctly is from Central, but this is his second year and he had to sit out his junior year. So if there is these new transfers that are being talked about around the water cooler it would nice to know who they are.

Chattanooga basketball hasn't been the same with the public schools since Riverside and Kirkman Tech were closed.

I have watched them play various Chattanooga teams for the past 6 years and I have always thought, "What raw talent they have". I heard from some friends in Jasper that the Henegar boy was thinking about returning to South Pitt but something happened to change his mind. Wonder what that was if it were even true. OP as far as losing good talent in the lower levels whose responsibility do you think it is to hold on to them?

Old Pirate says SP has a situation that can be a positive or sometimes a negative. Some folks like a middle school atmosphere and some are fine with the old school tradition of junior high and high school being housed in the same building. OP doesn't see much of a negative or positive except 6,7 & 8th grade can work together better in sports than programs where the split is 7-12 grade. The fact is most of us had the old school type situation and never thought nothing about it. Personally OP thinks some areas went to middle school systems to create room for crowded elementary and 7-12 high schools. RR, to answer you question OP really don't see anyone who could actually be identified responsible for holding kids in a program. Keep in mind SP has been limited with basketball facility problems and elementary principles in SP not advacates of developing basketball skills. OP is really not sure if that has changed recently, but will have to become a reality if SP is to become known for basketball.
