After one year with this new coaching staff, Oakland is one of the top ten programs in the state of tennessee. Why? Because Oakland already had a lot to work with... the players have always been there. They got a committment from the administration by making the right moves. The coaches work their butts off. The players listen and work their butts off. AND they are just getting started.... still hungry... not good for the competition!

Any truth to the rumor Blackman High is going to be open zone next year? If so I pick Blackman to win the region because I am hearing that several athletes from Smyrna High (are being recruited) will transfer as well a one from LaVergne High. Don't say it doesn't happen in Public Schools

That's the word on the street....open-zoned for Blackman.

Cmon Doc, you KNOW there is and always will be recruiting in the Boro in all sports. Some just get by with it.

We are still loaded. QB returns, he was just a soph. Great running back returning in Dre Frazier. He could be one of the most talented I have seen if he remains healthy. Many skill folk return. I would say we will be missing some KEY D linemen who graduated, but McAdoo returns. He was made even greater by those around him as offenses had their hands full with all that talent on the line. If we can fill the void left by Barrett, Amey, and a few other linemen, we should be solid this yr. Buddy Mitchell will be a force too. Remember his name.

Speaking of guys that made every better, Austin Murray got almost no mention last year but was just as stout on that defensive line as anybody. Buddy Mitchell is a good name to remember, but the one I am going to throw out that not many people know is Joell Keeling. Then again, with so many underclassmen, playing key minutes, its hard to single out 1 player for a breakout year. Zach Barnes, Lorenzo Elder, The entire offensive line, and Darius Coffey are all guys that I am pretty excited about

I was impressed with Keeling as a soph when he was rotating in with Bass and McGowan. Mentioned him on here several times. Speaking of Bass.....he will be missed. One of my favorite players over the last few yrs.

Murray was stout this past yr and made a name his soph yr on the line. He played like a sr as a soph.

We have a good nucleus coming back.

    • there will be a couple of teams, that could make some noise
    • Dyersburg may win back to back to back championships. They are going to be hands down the best 3A team. Plus their District/region/sectionals are not very good. They basically just have to make it to region out of a 5 team district that has a few decent teams. South Gibson will be okay but they graduate their best player and there is nobody in the region 7 or region 8 who is going to compete with them.
    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
