I don't know the final score, but Meigs' coach texted a friend of our assistant coach to tell him that they'd beaten Sequatchie. Wow!! An all District 5AA Region 3AA semifinals.

...I was wondering why our well-known Moderators hadn't posted the final score /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

Not that big of a shocker actually. Anybody that has seen Sequatchie Co. play this season knows that they had 3 senior starter quit before the season started and another tear her ACL. So that left them with Barker and Cooley and a host of freshmen and sophomores to fill the void. Both those girls had exceptional years and deserve credit for toughing it out and making the most of their season. Good Luck at Tech, Kat...And Brittany, get ready for softball. The Lady Indians have a chance to be special this season...

...Anytime a #4 seed beats a #1 seed it is a shocker!!! Every team had to go thru adversity this year...maybe 6AA is not as strong as 5AA...Meigs Co. has an experienced team and is not responsible for the issues that SC had after losing some players...Congrats to Meigs Co. for the 50-42 win!!!

50-42 Final. Meigs earned the win, they took the lead early in the third quarter and kept it. First half was close, Sequatchie led by as much as 6 early in the second quarter. 15-13 Sequatchie after one. Meigs cut it to 1 with a layup after a turnover, one of just 5 in the game for Sequatchie, with about a minute left. Sequatchie scored again, 25-22. Meigs caught a break with a couple of seconds left when the refs ignored a really obvious walk, maybe thinking there wasn't time enough to do anything but there was as they hit the three at the buzzer to tie it at the half, 25-25.

Meigs went on a 9-2 run to start the third quarter and led 37-30 after three, 12-5 in the quarter for Meigs. Meigs led 39-30, Sequatchie got it back to 39-34 with 3:30 to go as Meigs was forced into some some turnovers while trying to run clock. Sequatchie started fouling with 2:30 left and Meigs hit enough to keep the lead at 5-7 points until the last few seconds. Sequatchie's Barker scored all 12 in the fourth for Seq.

A big difference in the game was outside shooting, Meigs was 5-10 and Sequatchie was 1-13 on threes. That was disappointing, on the home court especially and the shooting had been above average lately. Meigs had a lot of players get wide open for uncontested shots, under the basket and from behind the line, the defensive play for Sequatchie was not good but give Meigs the credit for getting free. Foul shot attempts were about equal until Sequatchie had to start fouling to stop the clock (10 combined until then), Seq ended up 5-8, Meigs was 9-14.

Sequatchie's K Barker scored 16, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 0 turnovers. She was the clear focus for the Meigs defense but others picked up the scoring at times. Freshmen McAfee (4-4 FG) and M Barker (4 assists) each scored 8.

The team was disappointed but they seem to be already understanding and proud of what was accomplished this season. Seniors K Barker, Cooley, Birch, Lockhart averaged 25+ wins after the single season win record before they entered high school was 25, went to the only two sectionals so far for the program and won 3 straight district tournament championships, 1 district loss in the last 3 seasons (at CCS this year). This year's team had 7 freshmen and 4 sophomores out of 14 in uniform so things look good for next year despite graduating some outstanding talent.

If you think that every team went through that kind of adversity, your an idiot! Regardless of seeding, if YOU had seen the two teams play this year YOU would have realized that this wasn't a shocker. With the loss of those players this years team didn't compare to the ones that they had the last two years. How did 5AA (other than McMinn Central) fair against them then? Meigs is a very good team and District 5 is stronger... No one said they were responsible for SC's problems either... No ones trying to take anything away from Meigs, just stating the obvious... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Great post! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Yeah it was great year all considering how it began with the defections and how it ended but this team really pulled together when Racheal went down with several young players stepping up. That was some tired girls out there tonight as I think they pretty much went the entire game against Grundy the other night without subbing and it showed on the shooting.

I also think this is a team that can continue with a great future over the next three or four years. The team started two Freshmen and a Sophmore most of the season and I don't think there is even a Junior on the team. I also think there is a couple of good players in middle school coming up.

...Hey genius, if you read my quote accurately I didn't say "that kind of adversity" I said "adversity"...you don't know what each and every team had to go thru so don't get so emotional about SC's issues...how many teams did SC schedule other than McMinn Central??? By the way you're stating an opinion which is quite different from "the obvious"!!!

...And genius, one more thing>>>the Times-Free Press article's title is "MEIGS upsets Sequatchie"...what do you think "upset" means??? No, don't tell me you have already shown how intelligent you are /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Big J is a Marion fan but has watched Sequatchie's players compete for years, some in more than one sport.

Would the missing players have helped, of course. That group was 29-5 last year with losses to Cleveland (1 point), Memphis Central (a couple of points), Bradley, McMinn Central and Upperman on the road (led in the fourth), all in good games. But you go with who's available and for the most part the players this season did a great job.
