John McCrary at Sullivan North High School has managed to coach in the same community for 37 years. During that time he has had some great teams and some bad ones. Regardless of the final record, however, Coach McCrary's teams always seemed to improve during the season. This is a direct effect of his coaching. Anyone who has ever seen him coach must admit that he is one of the most entertaining coaches around regardless of the score. Coach McCrary, if you are watching keep slapping that towel and good luck this season.

Ralph Benson of Lawrence County was also one of the great coaches in the Mid-State.

The best coach that no one is talking about is Mike Buck. He is at Crossville now and has been I guess for bout 3 years now. He was at pickett co. early in his career where he won the state title. Then he was at University of Idaho as an assistant. Great coach, hard nosed and he isn't scared to get his point across. He is great though...hasn't had much talent at crossville though. However you could ask Bradley Centrals coach about them, they have upset them once or twice in the last couple of years. If he gets some talent and some people that actually work everyone will talk bout him then.

Surf4life, I agree....Great Coach, Great person. Coach Pitts has not been forgotten by the folks from Young High in Knoxville. He has the wins but more important, he has the respect from all around him. You start by measuring great coaches by their wins but you have to go further and measure them by the respect given them by their opponents, their administration, by the parents and most importantly his players. Coach Osborne of Alcoa falls in the same category. He is still respected by today's players even though he retired many years ago. He is a class act. A relatively young coach in the Knoxville area is gaining that same respect. Coach Wright of Fulton continues to develope his players to play at the highest level. To sit on the side line and watch him work is a pleasure even when we are playing him.
