Maples to Maryville ?

I find the situation with this Maples girl very intriguing; it seems to me that either she or family are complete head cases. She had problems at Pigeon Forge Middle so she moved to Eagleton there were strong rumor of turmoil within that team because of her and Howard did everything in his power to appease her so she would stay in the county system which worked for a short time. She played one year at Heritage then leaves for Maryville, one can only assume this is because she was in some way dissatisfied with the environment, as she been with her previous programs, because if you look at level of competiveness it is similar and all other factors relating to the programs are almost the same (with exception of the quality of education Maryville provides but I doubt that was even considered). This will be the third school system in four years and at the rate she is going I can??™t foresee this being her last stop. Good luck with her Maryville but I would not get too attached.

 

Now with that being said I am filled with elation because once again Heritage has an athletic failure and nothing quite makes me smile like the Mountaineers comical failings as an athletic program.

With all due respect for the opinions expressed here, perhaps the truth of the circumstances will shed bright light on the MJM move to MHS! It's simple, really. A single Mother with two young girls obtained her college degree at Carson Newman while living in Pigeon Forge. This done and with hopes for a good future for all of them, they had to decide just where they would like to settle, an exciting time for them. All places in the area were considered and it came down to Knoxville or Maryville.

In the past, MJM's uncle graduated from Maryville College where he played football, so family spent a lot of time in Maryville and really liked the City.

While trying to find an AAU team for MJM and little sister to play on, they were welcomed and happy to play for Coach Rebecca Morris at Eagleton Middle. It was unanimous with them this was where they wanted to settle, so the job search began. THAT WAS THAT! They moved to Maryville with the love and friendship of many people and coaches from P.F. who still keep in touch.

When high school for MJM came about, they lived in the county, girls were happy with their respective schools and, as far as MJM's sport of basketball was concerned, they really liked and highly respected Coach Howard and his assistants. She had a good, productive and fun year at Heritage H.S.

At the risk of embarrasing these girls, we will share with you....Personal family circumstances took hold and tough decisions had to be made for Mom to provide a better lifestyle for her and her girls. She searched for and finally found a home that was much more affordable for them, it was in Maryville City. (just so you understand the gravity, Mom mowed yards, cleaned houses, etc., to keep things going for them to get back "on their feet" while trying to decide what steps to take to make things better for them...because she relies on herself to provide). At this point, moving was the only option. They all had to make sacrifices. MJM's little sis gave up her place on the softball team for Heritage Middle, MJM had to leave a great coach, team and teachers, because both girls would have to change schools. However, these things were shadowed by how much better their lifestyle could again be. In these days that are hard for many folks, some things have to take a back seat to the most important things in life, and as hard as it might be, one of those things is sports! (I know....moan,moan,moan!!)

Although making this move was emotionally challenging for them, it is looking to be very positive for them as they have the support, encouragement and assistance of their entire family. AND, since I've never been accused of explaining anything in a short manner, if I may add, we've always told our kids and grandkids that when you have to make a tough decision about something, pray hard and start in a direction and if that is where you are guided and you are meant to be, things will fall into place. There's no doubt when we ask, we are guided in the right direction for us.

Yes, we have personal interest in the "Maples to Maryville" topic as you all have probably guessed...we are MJM's grandparents. We've always encouraged our four kids and five grandchildren to do what is best for FAMILY first. As far as sports, we will continue to enjoy basketball, football, softball games, whatever our granddaughters and grandsons participate in. As far as girls BBall, we'll continue to cheer on the teams that MJM is a part of no matter where life leads her! Maybe we'll see ya at the games!!

Thanks for the enlightening post. Your granddaughter is a great basketball player and I wish her only the best at Maryville. I promise you there is no finer person in the world than Maryville girl's coach, Kim Bledsoe. I hope everything will work out ... sounds like MJM has some wonderful, loving grandparents.

Just because you move in Maryville City limits does not mean you have to change schools, there are several students at HHS that live in Alcoa and Maryville. So your grandchildren could stay at there present school with their friends, great teachers and coaches and not have to deal with anymore changes.

Now that they are living within the Maryville City limits they are paying city and county taxes. Therefore, she can attend school at Maryville or Heritage. I understand the PROUD grandparents of this player trying to be respectful to the HHS players and support staff.

the mom dont know how to keep her mouth shut.she told everybody how rick recruited her and found her a job.she has already talked about the maryville apartment,i will not mention names on that end yet.it will come out when her kid is yelled at. shame on maryville, hope u get whats coming to.i can see you doing it for football but for a girl basketball player, hope its worth it.
