For those skipping to page 6:

As of 10-1-09:

TIE:

GREENEVILLE v CUMBERLAND GAP 18-0 :D

ARLINGTON v EAST 18-0 :D

D :D

Well, with the season coming to an end, and Greeneville still alive in A/AA (unless there have been unposted scores in other divisions)...Looks like we may end in a tie unless Greeneville unleashes on Notre Dame tonight.....Can they break the 18 goal differential against the Irish to claim the "Biggest Score Spread" title outright ??? :D Or are there teams that have been holding back and are now ready to pounce in the semi-finals and devistate their opponents...stay tuned.....

From the Greeneville Paper:

TOURNAMENT NOTES

* This might be the Lady Devils' first ever trip to the state soccer tournament, but the state record book is littered with achievements by Greeneville soccer.

Greeneville is second in state history in most goals scored in a single game when the Lady Devils scored 22 against Cocke County on Sept. 23, 2004.

Looks like Greeneville has a history of showing no mercy on an opponent....(See Biggest Score This Season Thread, where Greeneville drummed up on Cumberland Gap 18-0 THIS season)...

Sorry, if this is the same coach, this deserves a big BOO !

I used to think the high school batting average was the most useless stat in sports. I now think it is goals scored, except where it relates to whether you won or lost.

Cumberland Gap was beaten twice by Elizabethton - 16-0 and 11-1. Now that's Elizabethton - at best an average team this year. Sounds like the Greeneville score could have been much worse if the coach didn't pull the starters after the first 20 minutes.

By the way, did you complain when UT put 60+ points up a few weeks ago??

Since you found it necessary to post the above on 2 different threads, I'll copy and paste my reply to you from that other thread:

I was at the 22-0 Cocke County game a few years ago as my daughter played as a Freshman. Now Cocke County is a school with a student body close to 2000 students while Greeneville has about 850. Prior to the game the CC coach told Greenville's coach Eiskamp they were mismatched in talent but not to toy with her team by not trying to play and score. She felt toying with them would be more embarrassing than losing by a lopped sided score.

The score was 5-0 within 5 minutes. The starters were pulled and JV went in. The scorewent to 10-0 and the JV was pulled and the Freshman team went in. It got worse and the Freshman defense was put on offense and the offense on defense. The score went to 22-0. Their goalie didn't even try stopping the ball.

What would you do under those circumstances? This years Cumberland Gap game is similar as they are a new program. Look at the scores of other teams who played Cumberland Gap. There are many teams out there playing in similar situations. Page and Greeneville both are playing in conferences with markedly weaker teams that they must play. Look at Greeneville's non-conference schedule though and you can see Eiskamp trys to make up for it by playing the best whenever he can.

Even at the highest levels ....and what was the point spread in the Greenville match?

WIGAN, England, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Players of the Wigan soccer team said they'll repay the ticket cost to fans who traveled to London only to see the team fall 9-1 to Tottenham.

Jermain Defoe scored five goals, including three in a 7-minute span of the second half, in keying the rout for Tottenham. The 9-1 drubbing suffered Sunday by Wigan, which trailed just 1-0 at halftime, was the second worst in the history of Premier League soccer.

Wigan team leader Mario Melchiot, in a posting Monday on the team Web site, said the team "as a group of professionals, we were embarrassed by the way we performed."

He also said, "We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters (Sunday) and this is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty."

It is thought about 550 fans made the trip from Wigan to London for the game and the average price for a ticket to the Tottenham-Wigan match was about $175.
