Who has the best facilities?

Since everyone is looking for more to talk about on here, this is always a favorite topic.....

As more schools are getting their own fields (we here at Ravenwood now have our own field and are in the process of doing a lot of things to make it top shelf - sound system, dugouts, etc...) who has the best facility to play at?

I'll start it off by saying that the Greater Cleveland Soccer Complex where Cleveland High plays their games is an unreal facility. The field is huge, has a wonderful surface, they have international dugouts, they have an announcers booth at half line, and many other things. It is an awesome place to play.

Waston I'll agree, Cleveland has done an outstanding job upgrading their facility. They have went from a field no bigger than a postage stamp to a field that can be stretched to the max. However, I would like to Challenge Cleveland to put in better drainage, on and around the field. With a city and caring parents behind the program I'm sure that would not be a problem.

Coffee County might have the smallest field ever in the history of soccer, but the surface is pristine. Doesn't get much better than that.

White County, on the other hand, might have the worst field ever. Poor surface, significant grade, small dimensions--not conducive to attractive soccer at all. But it does have lights.

Wouldn't believe it unless I saw it but Smyrna has the best field in Rutherford County. Great grass, cut short, great bleacher section. Just got to get the band to practice somewhere else...I'm kind of jealous.

Definitely a shout out to the new Smyrna field. Funny thing is that two years ago, the ladies team was relegated to practicing in the outfield of the baseball field. The ladies, parents and supporters started wearing Title IX bracelets, holding meetings and voila, there is money for a new soccer field. Good job.

"But it does have lights."

. . . . so does a Wal-Mart parking lot but it doesn't make it a playable soccer field. :roflol:

Well, I think that's why the games are played there and not on, say, the high school football field. Apparently White County had a soccer-specific field built in a new sports complex, but football rules. Which is a shame, for they have some solid young talent (several girls and quite a few boys) and for them to have to play their home games on a field whose sidelines are 5 yards out from the edge of the penalty box just kinda stinks.

And hey, if American kids had the same soccer mentality as kids do in the third world, you could bet there would be folks playing in Wal-Mart parking lots!

    • I grew up watching Greene Devil Football since I could walk and still close with a lot of the coaches so should know my history pretty well lol.  Everything worked out the way it should have but firmly believe McCurry would have won some State Title if he wouldn't been let go (Greeneville still runs the same D he brought here and he let Ballard run the O and stayed out of it when it came to calling plays.  Greeneville was put out in the Semi's McCurry's last year against Maryville and the next year Greeneville stayed in 4a and was State Runner up playing were they were placed for the first time by the TSSAA.). It was definitely a McCurry and Ballard show that turned everything around along with the Community buying in and revamping the weight room and field house. Since Ballard got promoted to HC every Coach after him has been within the Greeneville Coaching staff because your right, they know what it takes to win a state championship.  Ballard was a master mine on O and what i think Greeneville has lacked since he left and let some Championships or making it to the Championship slip away over the last few years
    • Sounds like you know your area history well. Going back and looking the records were better than I thought but mostly still beating Upper East TN schools. Ballard sounds like he came/was promoted at the right time.    I do think it’s no coincidence that them keeping the HCs as guys who were former guys on the staff. Too many times schools want a “state championship” leveled coach from the outside but they don’t know the landscape. Promoting from within will help with less turnover and keep the program consistent.
    • You’re a fool if you think I have more than one account
    • Looking back they had better records than I recalled against upper East TN.  But they still took off once ballard got there. And beating other good programs
